Chapter 1 Plymp:
Three years after Satan's death, Plymp is booming. In the town, there are seven hundred residents who work and live there. The circumstances behind the devil's demise are still being looked into by the bureau of anomalous entities, or B.A.E. After all that happened three years ago, nobody has ever been the same. Things will never be the same, even though they all longed for the opposite. Orla, a local police sheriff, was responsible for one of the worst acts that had ever been done at that point in the towns recent history. By opening the casket, she was the one who unleashed the curse placed on the mayor's body. Not a single person in Plymp predicted this happening, and they were all unprepared for such an event.
After initiating an evacuation order, Jack and his patrol team guided the residents of the town into the roughly 132-mile sewage tunnel below. In this manner, everyone will be protected and the B.A.E. officers can handle the issue more appropriately. Jack tells his CO that he thinks it would be best to tackle this issue head on. His CO agrees and they devise a plan to use the research from the B.A.E headquarters in the town. The only challenge is getting there and returning unscathed by the curse or any demons that may have infiltrated the village. Jack reassures his CO that no demons should harm the town because his men are some of the greatest that B.A.E. has seen.
Chapter 2 The curse:
The town has been under the curse for three weeks and four days. The curse first damaged the bank, then the farm, and lastly the nearby orphanage. In 1993, the goat man cursed the first mayor's coffin in an effort to rile up the community. Naturally, no one dared activate the curse, thus since then, theories have been made up about what the curse did. After obtaining B.A.E's research, Jack and his group discovered that there is a straightforward solution—all they have to do is apply a lot of holy water to the body. The spare water that Plymp has is blessed by the pope, bishops, and priests.
Those within 200 feet of the coffin waved in famine and infertility. During those 25 days, the Catholic church laboured to try and fix the curse by blessing the water. But it ended suddenly and for no apparent reason; none knew why. They then started to move up, team by team, driving away the invading demons. The majority of people were relieved that it had happened and believed that the issue had resolved itself, but the Catholic Church wasn't so certain that everything was well. They assist the B.A.E. soldiers in vanquishing the demons right away by using the holy water. Fortunately, the town was only home to tier 4 and 3 demons, thus B.A.E. and the church had little trouble retaking the town.
Chapter 3 Training:
After the whole ordeal of the curse all of Plymp's residents received demon training from the Catholic church and B.A.E. in order to help them stay prepared. The patriarchs of every family commence them at the crack of dawn, followed by the matriarchs. They were all instructed to pass on their knowledge to the family's younger members. Since Jack has the greatest training regimen experience, he was given the responsibility of overseeing the entire operation. He devises the following scheme. A more basic training programme is provided to those ages 10 to 12, more advanced training to those ages 13 to 19, and captain and trainer responsibilities to those ages 20 to 40. Individuals over 41+ are assigned to the tactical analysis role.
The goal of the church's creation of this army was to equip its members with the ability to defend themselves in the event that the patrol teams or guards fail to do their jobs and Plymp is attacked. In this manner, humanity will have a stronger chance of surviving, and B.A.E. won't have to waste time on personnel training in the future. The local bishop orders Jack to keep training people until they are all prepared. He nods, but says he has much to do and wonders if he will get more vacation days. The bishop assures him that he will not be deducted from his vacation time and that he can spend as much time as necessary to deal with the cult known as the ones that God has abandoned. Smiling, he walks towards his house and pours himself a glass of rum upon arriving.
Chapter 4 Orla's trial:
On the day of Orla's trial, everyone anticipates what punishment the judge will inflict on her. Her attorney seeks to demonstrate that Orla had a legitimate purpose for opening the coffin. Everyone wanted her to be declared an enemy of the state and executed. The jury murmurs among themselves as Orla's attorney begins and states that if she had been planning this, why not do it earlier. The bishop gets up and says she could have been waiting for the right opportunity.
The judge orders the bishop to take a seat and allows the attorney to proceed. The jurors are informed by the attorney that Orla was raised in and loves the town so she doesn't have any reason to do it. The jury nods in agreement as the attorney notes that many people in the town know Orla and are aware that doing anything like this isn't characteristic of her. The jury debates for seven hours before returning a verdict that finds the defendant not guilty for the time being. The judge permits the jury to leave. The foreperson stands and declares that she will not be punished because there is proof that she was coerced into opening the coffin by a demon and that she is innocent.
The judge asks for order in the court as everyone begins to lose it over this and yell things like "Murderer" and "Guilty." Based on her assessment of the evidence, the judge finds Orla not guilty. She sighs as they leave the courthouse after Jack leads her past the hostile crowd and drives her home, telling her that she will be the focus of many threats going forward.
Chapter 5 Orla:
On her daily outings, Orla encounters verbal and physical harassment from the town's citizens. Ever since the incident, everyone hates her. Not even her own family is interested in talking to her. Some say she doesn't deserve the criticism she gets and that she wasn't at fault. Her supporters claim that since there is sufficient proof that she was possessed by a demon and was unable to control herself, she did nothing wrong. People who don't like her claim that she is a worshipper of the devil who desired possession. Orla made the intelligent choice to limit her travels to church and stay at home.
Orla goes to the church every day to talk to sister Alice to try and convince the people of Plymp that she had no choice in the matter and was forced to do it. The sister is one of the few people that believes she was innocent. Orla did tell the sister that she's sick of so many people verbally and physically abusing her. The sister says that she can put a good word with the B.A.E guards to see if anyone is able to stay with her at her house and walk her to church. Orla was born in the same year that the curse was put on the mayors grave. That is part of the reason that those who dislike Orla say is proof that she did herself and a demon wasn't involved.
Following two weeks of investigation, B.A.E. determines that the demon in question was the tier 2 demon known as gluttony. They chase after him, but he gets away. B.A.E is informed by the church that gluttony was likely just being itself and wanting all the cheese to itself. Since Plymp is renowned for its cheese exports, the leaders of B.A.E nod and concur.
