The streets were quiet, such was every early morning in Riveildia. Oliver, Amice and Thomas always enjoyed the early mornings of the weekends when they got to do whatever they pleased.
"Do you really think Old man Jake can help us with this?" Amice asked,
"He's never let us down, has he?" Oliver said. Old man Jake was known as the kingdoms hex man. He was known for selling spells, curses and all kinds of magical items. He was mostly visited by people who weren't witches, mages or were just children like Oliver and his friends.
They arrived at a small wooden stall seated in a dark narrow alley. The stall had small vials of all shapes and colours displayed on shelves within the shop. Amice reached up to the base of the stall window and began knocking.
"Good morning, Jake!" She called with a bright tone. A lanky old man, with scanty grey hair popped out his head from the stall window, a grin revealing his crooked teeth spread across his wrinkled face as he looked down at his three customers.
"Hey kids!" he wheezed, eyes beaming. "What sort of trouble are you children looking for today?"
"I wouldn't say trouble." Oliver detested.
"Right, right... adventures I mean." Oliver stepped back and cocked his head up to meet Jake's eyes with his.
"We need a potion." he said. The Old man leaned forward and asked.
"What kind of potion?"
"One that would make us appear like someone else." Old man Jake immediately retreated to the inside of his stall and started rummaging through it.
"You know, what you're asking for will cost you lot." He said to them as he returned with a small vial and an odd hand mirror. Thomas leaned close to Amice and whispered;
"Looks like you're up Amice." With a smirk, Amice stood on the tip of her toes so she could peer into the stall.
"How much are we talking about here?" she asked, Jake shook his head letting out a nervous laugh,
"Oh no Amice, not this time." He tucked both the vial and the mirror in a brown sac. "My price is fixed you see, no senseless haggling in this shop." Amice feigned a quizzical look,
"I only asked the price." She said,
"I know that look all too well missy." Jake said, pointing a long slender finger at her. He dropped the sac on the display, "Seven gold coins." Amice worked her jaw as she narrowed her eyes. A brief moment passed before she said;
"Come on Jake. You said it was a fixed price, didn't you? Why don't you tell us the price you want us buy it and there would be none of this 'senseless haggling' as you'd call it." Moment passed before Jake let out a silent sigh,
"Five gold coins." He spoke. Amice's smirk became more pronounced for a short while.
"We have four." She said with beckoning eyes.
"Nope, not a chance." Jake spat. "Five is my final offer and nothing you say would change that." Amice just kept staring at him with her immense eyes. Moments later, the man's stilled expression softened.
"So, four?" She said finally. Once again, he let out a sigh and then handed her the sac. She dropped the coins before him. "Thanks Jake." She said before swiftly running away with Oliver and Thomas. As the old man picked up the coins, he noticed something,
"Hey!!" He called out to the three, but they kept running. "One of these coins are silver." He yelled. He could hear them all giggle as they ran out of sight. He chuckled lightly, "Rotten kids."
