He never knew how terrifying it was, to lose a central part of yourself that you had relied on for so so long. How even more terrifying it was to feel like a stranger in one's own body.

"[Y/n]-sama," a voice called out to him in both worry and fear, but all he wanted was for them to shut up.

To his distress, the voice continued, "I do sincerely apologize for being the bearer of this bad news. But, I am sure you have come to realize this yourself!"

He did.

His head slowly dipped downwards. He did not even have to see to notice how tense the voice beside him had become as he did so.

His body did not move, not even a twitch, as he listened to the physician's every word. "The poison has rendered your lower body, your legs to be precise, no longer usable. I have stopped the flow of its venom, but I was too late to stop it from affecting your nervous system."

He felt suffocated, and the smell of incense strangling his room did not help one bit.

His fist tightened, crushing the sheets covering his body in a deadly grip. He was sure, with how brightly the moonlight passed through his windows, that specks of tears under his eyes were visible to the physician.

An eerie silence lingered.

A beat passed. And then another. His fingers twitched and he tilted his head up to the physician.

In a steady voice, he said, "There is no need to tell me what I already know. It has been days, and I still could not feel a single thing coming from them." The physician stayed silent at his words.

"Inactivity will serve no purpose whatsoever to anyone."

"Pardon?"

His eyes locked on to the physician's own. He continued, "I cannot use my legs anymore. Which would mean that I cannot fight any longer. Does this not mean that I am relieved of my duties?" The physician gulped.

It is obvious that they did not know what to say. The physician was called here to check on his condition and to heal him of his injuries. They did not know anything about the rest of the situation.

But still, he was angry. He was frustrated.

Who else did he have to blame? To wake up in this condition of his. What else was he supposed to do? Stuck here in this futon, heavily injured, and with nothing left of his future.

Bang!

The door to his room harshly slid open, and in came a familiar man with the same hair as his own. With a distinguished stride, , his brother and also his general, stepped closer and closer to him.

Despite the aura of authority and somberness surrounding him, Hidesato did his best to soften his expression when their gazes met. "Do not say such things, little brother."

The physician quickly excused themself, sensing the private conversation that was to come.

Hidesato sat at the edge of his futon, looking directly at his unmoving legs, and then said in a gentle voice, "I will find a way to fix this, little brother. Trust me on this." His ever-protective brother was no doubt in distress, most probably choosing to blame the whole thing on himself as well.
