Chapter One
An old and tattered story book laid out in front of several children. They were all around the age of ten. They children were all listening intently as M/n, whom was a young adult, read from the book. Frisk, his younger adoptive sibling smiling as the kids paid attention to the same old story that M/n brought to the orphanage every month.
The pages were a bit yellow and well-worn. The book had been read countless times. M/n's voice was soft as he spoke the words off of the pages.
"Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS." He did not have the same kind of tone to his voice as most others did when he said the word MONSTERS. "One day, war broke out between the two races."
"But, why though?" Sam, one of the youngest children asked. "WHY did it happen?"
Frisk silently giggled and politely hushed her so M/n could continue the short story.
"After a long battle," He said, shooting a quizzical look towards Sam. "The HUMANS were victorious. They sealed the MONSTERS underground with a MAGIC SPELL. Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return."
Sam groaned and covered her face with her hands. M/n laughed softly, closing the book. Frisk smiled and signed; "it's just a legend."
One of the older kids, Jack, spoke up in a huff, "only dumb 'legends' say that nobody returns."
M/n playfully glared at the boy, carefully placing his book back into his bag. "Oh yeah?"
"I'd bet my entire piggy bank that you and Frisk could prove that book wrong!" Jack said.
"Sounds like a challenge that I'm willing to do." M/n smirked, standing up. "Who better to prove a legend wrong than me an' Frisk?"
Frisk shook their head and stood up with him. They had a look of DETERMINATION on their face. Sure, it was dangerous. But hey, what kind of damage could a silly story book cause? Sam flopped back onto her bed and sighed.
"When will this ever end!?"
And that was how this started. All because of a silly little bet one of the boys at the orphanage had made. M/n sighed as he held Frisk's hand while they walked up Mount Ebott. The journey was linger than M/n had expected it to be; his legs were already aching. Frisk made a mocking expression towards him as he complained again.
"I swear, I'm never taking another bet from Jack agai- ack!" M/n sucked in a sharp breath as a small bit of the mountain crumbled beneath his and Frisk's feet.
M/n felt a rush of adrenaline course through him as the force of gravity pulled him and his sibling falling into the mountain.
Oh, well. This was one hell of a way to end the story.
Frisk sat up and looked around. A soft patch of golden flowers had cushioned the unexpected fall. They turned their head and looked at their brother. M/n was face-down into the flowers. As Frisk reached out to poke him, he shot up and sat on his knees.
Frisk jumped a bit. M/n looked at them and opened his mouth to say something, but the only thing that came out was a sneeze. He groaned and stood up, Frisk following suit.
Once M/n had steadied himself, Frisk grabbed his hand and began walking towards a part of the room that resembled a hallway. Like they already knew what to do. They stopped at a large purple door and let go of M/n's hand.
"Eh?" M/n cocked his head to the side and raised a brow.
Frisk signed quickly; "you go in first."
M/n rolled his eyes and pushed the door open, walking in first, Frisk following close behind him. Behind the large door, was another room with a small patch of nice, green grass smack dab in the center. Sprouting from that grass, was another golden flower. But this one had a face.
"Huh?"
M/n was hesitant to take a step forward. The moment before he did, he could have sworn that the flower had given Frisk an odd look. When M/n's shoe hit the ground while taking a step, the flower started talking.
"OHMIGOSH-" He gasped, suddenly feeling stuck in place.
"Howdy!" The flower said, "I'm FLOWEY! FLOWEY the flower! Hmm.. You're new to the UNDERGROUND, aren't you?"
M/n had a strange sense that Flowey was talking to him directly, and not at all to Frisk. He couldn't say anything.
"Golly! You must be so confused! Someone ought to teach you how things work around here!" Flowey's voice was ALREADY starting to annoy the hell out of M/n, and he hadn't even been talking for five minutes. "I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go!"
There was a flash of light after Flowey stopped talking for a moment. M/n blinked twice before his vision focused again, and his sight landed on his SOUL. He'd never actually seen it before. It was his favorite color. Usually, upon seeing that color, he'd be happy. But he wasn't, as he soon recognized the BATTLE menu was up.
M/n stared at the flower, waiting for him to continue talking. He was starting to have a feeling of CAUTIOUSNESS.
"See that heart?" Flowey began, glancing at the floating SOUL. "That is your SOUL, the very culmination of your being!"
M/n had a sudden urge to make a sarcastic comment.
"Your SOUL starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV. What's LV stand for? Why, LOVE, of course!" Okay, this is getting really annoying. "You want some LOVE, don't you?"
M/n tried to glance at Frisk, but he couldn't see out of the BATTLE menu.
"I'll share some with you. Down here, LOVE is shared through.. little white..'friendliness pellets.'" As Flowey continued, said pellets appeared in a circle around M/n's SOUL. "Are you ready? Move around, get as many as you can!"
Thankfully, there spaces between the pellets large enough for M/n's SOUL to move through. There was no way in hell that he was going to trust this flower. M/n could feel his breathing quicken slightly as he just barely dodged the little things.
His eyes flickered from his f/c SOUL back up to Flowey. The oddly friendly and welcoming face that was plastered on the flower's face not even a moment ago was now gone. An irritated and displeased expression had replaced it. M/n was suddenly filled with FEAR.
"Hey buddy, you missed them. Let's try again, okay?"
Another loose ring of those pellets had formed a circle around his SOUL. M/n's feeling of FEAR had begun taking over. Once again, he dodged them. Gods, how he wished that he was given the option to flee.
"Is this a joke?" Flowey was definitely irritated now. "Are you brain dead? RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS!!! friendliness pellets."
M/n dodged them again. Did Flowey just call them bullets? Another glance at the flower, and M/n felt right to be AFRAID. Flowey had a horrifying look on his face.
"You know what's going on here, don't you?"
No. But Gods, was he REALLY starting to regret coming up the mountain.
"You just wanted to see me suffer."
What did dodging those pellets have to do with seeing this flower suffer?
Another ring of BULLETS surrounded his SOUL. This time, the ring was closed. There was no dodging this time, so he braced himself for the worst.
"DIE."
As the bullets closed in on his SOUL, Flowey began laughing. But as soon as they reached it, instead of hurting him, they made him feel better. A look of confusion flashed across both M/n and Flowey's faces. Then, a ball of fire came out of nowhere and hit the flower, sending him flying.
"What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth.."
