Chapter Two

The sweet and motherly voice had come from a goat lady. M/n presumed that she was the one who just saved his life, and for that, he quietly thanked her.

"Ah, do not be afraid, my child." She said with a soft smile. "I am TORIEL, caretaker of the RUINS."

Toriel, huh? A relieved smile made its way onto M/n's face. He had never met this woman before, yet it felt like he'd known her for years. M/n felt at ease.

"I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down." Toriel continued softly, her gaze shifting from him, and back to Frisk, before settling back on M/n. "You two are the first humans to come here in a long time... Come! I will guide you through the catacombs."

Finally, the BATTLE menu went away. M/n could see his surroundings once again, including Frisk. When his eyes landed on them, they moved up to be beside him. M/n took their hand in his and looked back to Toriel.

She had an elegant purple robe on. It looked almost like something that royalty would wear.

"This way." Toriel turned around and began walking.

M/n followed her, gently pulling Frisk along with him. Toriel had led them into a much nicer room. It was purple. That color seemed to be a reoccurring thing down here. At the far end of the decent sized room, were stairs. There were two sets of them; separated by a small pile of red leaves.

As Toriel walked up the stairs, M/n's attention was drawn towards a shiny yellow sparkle floating above the leaves. M/n raised a brow at the shiny thing, walking up to it. He glanced down at Frisk, who let go of his hand for a moment.

"Go ahead!" They signed.

He shrugged and carefully reached both of his hands out to touch the sparkle.

* (HP fully restored.)

"What was that?" He whispered, shaking his head.

It was an odd feeling that he received from the sparkle, but it wasn't a bad one. Frisk smiled at him and touched it themself, taking a moment before holding M/n's hand again.

M/n focused back on Toriel, who was waiting at the top of the stairs patiently. He began walking again, trailing along behind her. Toriel brought them into the next room, which had six pressure plates on the ground, with a switch in the wall. This looked like a puzzle.

"Welcome to your new home, innocent ones. Allow me to educate you in the operation of the RUINS." She walked over four of the plates before flicking the switch, initiating a sequence that allowed entry to the next room. "The RUINS are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move room to room. Please adjust yourselves to the sight of them."

This time, Frisk walked ahead of M/n into the room. They seemed to be.. familiar with all of this. But M/n didn't question it.

"To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches. Do not worry, I have labeled the ones that you need to flip."

M/n looked down at Frisk, a small grin on his face. "You wanna do these?"

An enthusiastic nod was what he got in response. M/n watched as they walked off to the switches that Toriel had labeled--which, the labels were hard to miss. M/n laughed softly and walked over to Toriel as Frisk did the puzzle.

"My name is M/n." He introduced himself, offering a smile. "Frisk is my little sibling.. I'm a young adult--Im not sure if you could tell, aha-"

Toriel laughed lightheartedly, clasping her hands together. "That's a wonderful name, M/n! And thank you for clarifying."
