Smoke

You were enjoying the warm weather on your patio while dozing off in your chair, you noticed smoke feet away which made your heart sink. You get a gut feeling that something wasn't right, so you look at the news and see the report of wildfires breaking out and spreading rapidly, you call your girlfriend Becky but she doesn't answer making the voice in your head say to get everything important and get out while you still had the chance to before things possibly got worse, you head upstairs and grab your suitcase immediately packing it full of the things you deemed important and ran outside to your car when all you see is smoke and bright orange along with hearing the crackle and snapping of the fire that roared outside and through the ceiling and walls of the house. You immediately open the door and run to your car only to find it on fire and flames soaring high making you scream as you feel the heat, realizing that you had no where to go except the pool since the flames blocked everywhere around you, you throw the suitcase in the pool and jump in feeling the heat of the flames shooting over your head making you immediately dive under and swim towards the deeper end of the pool as it's getting darker, you grab two wash cloths in the pool putting one on your head and the other in front of your mouth to breath as see smoke and red around you diving under water when above got too hot. You lost track of time after four hours of being in the pool, feeling yourself shiver despite occasionally and carefully sitting on the edge of the corner to stop your body from going into shock or hypothermia as you feel debris around you and soot falling down on you from the tree above you that was on fire, you hear yelling looking to see a couple who were pointing to the mountain trail as you carefully crawl to them until you were all walking hand in hand down the trail until you see a car pull up beside you as the couple hugs their daughter waiting for them, you end up accepting a car ride from a woman and her daughter to their house immediately calling becky on your phone who was already on a plane heading back to be with you, you cry after hanging up and you are in shock when you see that your eyes are blood red, covered from head to toe in debris, smoke, and soot, and completely black in the bathroom mirror before showering. You cry when you see becky waiting for you, tearfully thanking the woman who helped you as you both run and hold each other tightly and you both stay with your sister until you both moved into a better house not far from her and definitely with a pool after you told her everything that happened.
