EXT. SPACE
[As the missile continues to speed into space, communications die, and the suit begins to freeze. Tony looks in horror as he lets go of the missile. It whistles off into the blackness as he idly falls back down the portal's opening.]
[We then see Tony's horror...which is the entire Chitauri fleet itself, the mothership's ominous presence seen in the background. The black sky is filled with what must be ninety ships in a vague cluster. Most of them hang still in the air. Some move swimmingly about.]
[Once the missile reaches the mothership, it explodes and bursts into a supernova, creating a brief, but spectacularly heavenly display.]
People gasp, people cheer, people stay silent looking at the supernova in awe.
EXT. MANHATTAN - DAY
[Suddenly, all of the Chitauri Soldiers and Leviathans start to shake, then keel over and die.]
EXT. SPACE
[Inside the now non-functional suit, Tony slowly closes his eyes.]
EXT. MANHATTAN - DAY
[The Avengers still on Earth look up at the portal, not sure if he'll make it through.]
EXT. STARK TOWER - DAY
[Still holding the scepter in hand, Black Widow shifts around, waiting.]
Natasha Romanoff: Come on, Stark...
"You were worried" said Tony teasingly, he tries to pinch her cheek Natasha glares at him and grabs his wrist with a raised eyebrow. Tony shrank back.
EXT. MANHATTAN - DAY
[Thor and Cap see the supernova coming towards them. Thor nods to Cap.]
Tony pretends to be offended.
Steve Rogers *to Natasha*: Close it.
EXT. STARK TOWER - DAY
[Without hesitating, she makes contact with the Tesseract, and then quickly pulls the scepter out as the energy beam keeping the portal open runs out.]
[As the portal begins to close, Tony is seen lifelessly falling into it.]
[By pure luck, he manages to get warped back to Earth right before the Supernova can reach the city and burn it asunder.]
EXT. MANHATTAN - DAY
[Back in Stark Tower, Black Widow smiles, and so does Cap down in Manhattan.]
Steve Rogers: Son of a gun...
[But...Iron Man keeps on falling...and falling...and falling.]
EXT. MANHATTAN - DAY
Thor: He's not slowing down.
[He swings his Mjölnir around, ready to fly off.]
[But just as he was about to do it, Hulk appears and snags Iron Man out of the air, both crashing and sliding down a building.]
EXT. BRIDGE STREET - DAY
[He then leaps off, and tanks the fall damage received from landing on the bridge and an unfortunate brown car nearby.]
[He throws Iron Man off him as Thor and Cap run over to check on him.]
