With the first warm light of the early morning sun, Park Seonghwa opened his store's door. The forecast promised the day to be sunny and warm, if not too hot, and he expected to get many customers. His store "Buzzy Honeybee" was a small flower shop that carried mostly common species yet that turned out to be what the people around here liked and bought the most.
Like every morning, he synched his phone with the store's small speakers to play a calming playlist. The soft melodies filled the silence while he worked, making him hum with a gentle smile on his lips. He placed small pots of daisies and marigolds outside on a small bench and took some of the sunflowers out as well. Most of the seedlings had yet to grow, but a few already wore pretty green leaves and deserved to greet the sun. At least, that's what he thought.
Inside, he started by watering the Succulents and Cacti before re-arranging cute pots and vases on the display shelves. He checked his stock of Carnations and Lilies since they were almost sold out and the new ones wouldn't arrive until next week and disposed of a few that sadly had withered overnight. All set, Seonghwa went outside again to turn the sign in front of his store from "closed" to "open", and like every morning he paused for a moment to take a deep breath of the fresh air. One of the perks of having a store on the outskirts of town was little to no noise and fewer cars driving around. That also meant less stress for the citizens living around here and was the perfect place for young couples to raise their children. Seonghwa adored chatting with young parents and/or older ladies about insignificant things while their children wandered around his store, mesmerized by the number of vibrant flowers that greeted them.
The only "flaw" in this perfect suburban area (if you could even call it that), was a small store right across the street, neatly tucked in between two larger buildings. Everyone who walked by could guess right by the name, what kind of business it contained. The "Witch's Coven" was a tattoo studio, whose owner was a young man Seonghwa's age. From what the florist had heard, his name was Kim Hongjoong. He was easy to spot on the streets, which could be because of his cherry-red hair and the tattoos that covered both of his arms. Whenever Seonghwa saw him from afar, he also noticed many, many piercings.
After taking in the fresh air, Seonghwa slowly headed back inside his store to start arranging the flower bouquets that were ordered. He liked to take his time with those, always considering the person who ordered them and the occasion they would be used for in the process. The results always satisfied his customers.
After a while, the little door above the entrance chimed and notified him of a person entering. Seonghwa smiled and looked up from the bouquet he was about to finish:"Hello, how can I-" He didn't even get to finish his sentence because a very angry, very short red haired person aggressively slapped 30 bucks on his counter and asked:"How do you passive-aggressively say fuck you in flowers?" Startled because he didn't expect this first thing in the morning, Seonghwa blinked:"What?". "How do I say fuck you in flowers", Kim Hongjoong repeated, sounding calmer this time. Weirded out, Seonghwa answered after thinking about it for a short moment:"You'd probably need a bunch of geraniums, which mean stupidity, meadowsweets for uselessness, foxglove for insincerity, and if you want you can add yellow carnations and orange lilies on top of it, but why would you-" He, yet again, got interrupted:"Great! One bouquet full of fuck you, please." "Sure."
The florist carefully placed the almost finished bouquet aside, before starting on the new one. Luckily, he still had some geraniums, meadowsweets, carnations, and foxglove, but that was it. He also only had white lilies because he preferred them in this color since he thought this was the prettiest. "How would you like me to wrap them?" The tattoo artist shrugged his shoulders:"I don't care, you choose." And so, Seonghwa picked out a simple, brownish paper and a white lace ribbon to finish it up. It looked beautiful if he might say so himself, even though the meaning of the flowers was anything but kind.
