Eli didn't question the gun barrel that protruded from the window in front of him, but he did question why the shooter was firing over his head and at his attackers. Not one to argue with good luck, Eli growled and strengthened his resolve to stay in the competition so he could do something beyond constantly underestimating his opponents.
An assault rifle literally fell into Eli's lap as he considered his options. One of the attackers had rushed to the window for a better view at their sniper, only to take a round to the shoulder for it. Eli grasped the still dazed man by the collar and pulled him outside. Eli took the first pickup he saw on the man and quickly scanned it's name before snapping it and being enveloped by a green glow as he was healed. "Thanks," Eli muttered before driving his combat knife through the man's face and firing an entire clip over his head into the warehouse before beginning to move.
Eli kept under the window with his rifle at the ready as he turned the corner, firing a volley of bullets into the distracted group firing up at a roof in the distance and eliminating the lot of them. For now, he didn't question their target. Coming up to the warehouse entry on the south, he peered in through the doorway only to pull back as their gunfire was focused on him.
Their numbers thinned as the friendly sniper was spared some of their supressive fire. As soon as they refocused fire back on the sniper Eli fired blindly back into the warehouse. Pulling back to reload, Eli barely avoided another volley of gunfire from the inhabitants.
It went quiet, the inhabitants had stopped shooting. Eli brough the rifle up to his shoulder with a fresh clip and stepped into the doorway. Quiet but not safe apparently, Eli thought to himself as one of the hunting party dove on him with a knife.
Nearly seven foot tall when he was standing, Eli was using all of his strength to keep this behemoth of a man from driving the knife blade clean into his throat. Any underhanded ideas he came up with were quickly discarded as the giant's immense strength pressured the blade further down. If it weren't for the leverage from the ground Eli would be dead already, but that wasn't going to help for much longer as Eli's muscles began to ache. Just as he was losing all strength, Eli heard a gunshot...

Sorry, reader! VE is stopping here for a while so I can pick up all of my plans for it and possibly rewrite the whole thing in the future. I'm simply not happy with my writing here, and for one of my better ideas I'm not sure I want to continue without planning it out properly. I've gotten a lot of input for VE so I'll definitely be bringing out an ultimate version sometime soon. Until then I'll be putting up a little timeline for VE at the end of the book and trying to work on Whitewash a little bit.
Of course I have no readers, so that's enough encouraging myself there.
