Sam's POV

It felt like it had before Abby and the other joined us. We were quiet not just because there was nothing to talk about but also because it's easier to listen for things that way. I think the silence is the scariest part about this place. The silence is the calm before the storm.

"Sam..." Candice called out quietly, "what are we doing?"

"We're looking for the others..." I say simply even though I thought she already knew this.

"And then what will we do? Look for a way out like we always have?" Candice asked and I turned my attention to her, "you already know the only way out... Death," her eyes were watering and I felt a chill down my spine.

"Get away from him!!" I heard Abby yell as she came running down to hall towards us and took my arm, "she's not Candice,"

"What?" I say and look down at Abby and Lily who clung onto their dad's leg.

"I saw something go into her just before she left to find you," Abby says as she glares at Candice. Candice wasn't Candice? That's hard to believe for me.

"Didn't I tell you to shut up?" Candice said with a giggle and shook her head at Abby, "I was going to kill you all one by one but since it's become like this I guess I'm going to kill you all now," the widest grin covered her face. Her teeth were rotting and her hair seemed to be falling out within a few seconds.

"W-what.... Candice?" I was full of shock as Abby started pulling me to run away from Candice with her and as we did Candice just walked after us and hummed a lullaby. The further we got the more it seemed like the humming followed us.

"Where should we hide?" Abby looked at me and I could see the fear in her eyes. I started running faster so I'd be in the lead. I took them to the safe room Candice and I hid before. We ran in and Lily was pushed ahead by Eugene. I heard a scream of torture come from Eugene and turned around to see a black shadowy hook had went through the back of his knee and out the front.

"Daddy!" Lily cried and almost ran back out for him if Abby hadn't grabbed onto her. The door was slammed in our face as Eugene was pulled away screaming.

I stood there still trying to process what had just happened. Abby and Lily were on the ground hugging each other as they cried out for their father. Lily was crying into Abby's chest as she rocked back and forward to comfort Lily while she was crying just as loud.

I fell to my knees and stared at the ground stained with dry blood. One by one I could see my tears hit the ground. I let out a scream. It wasn't a scream of physical pain. This pain was much worse. I felt this pain every time I lost someone but now... I have no family left. The worst pain I had felt this entire time here. I was the last one... I had watched everyone die. I saw all their down falls.

"You said...," Lily was looking at me now through Abby's embrace and was trying to talk through her tears, "you said... As long as... As they don't give up.... You were wrong!"

"...... Sometimes it doesn't wait for you," I reply with a trembling voice. This was how we were going to die. Scared. Alone. In pain. All until our last moments. What a cruel fate.
