A. N. : This is the edited version of chapter 8!! So do read this version to get an idea of where we are in the story. This version is much slow paced than the last one, and hopefully is also the better version. There will be a lot of explaining and complex topics discussed so please read carefully.
As much as this ain't a textbook and I of course won't be asking you questions but, just in case any thing confuses you do refer to these chapters! <3
⚠️Trigger Warnings : This chapter contains topics such as depression, suicidal thoughts, abandonment issues, racism, classist behaviour, and the necessity of familial/platonic love (a lot of family bonding moments cause why not?)
Do remember all of these characters even if fictional portray human behaviour. Heartbreak, feelings of loneliness and other emotional and mental health problems will come up given the circumstances of a tragedy happening. This chapter all that gory but does deal with sensitive topics of mental health issues and societal issues.⚠️
[ NOTE : I DO NOT PROMOTE RASICT OR CLASSIST BEHAVIOUR, BUT IT'S AN ISSUES THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. SAME AS THE ISSUES AND MYTHS SURROUNDING MENTAL HEALTH ! ]
Have a happy reading!!

Before leaving for the West Duchy, Hayes needed to complete the side quest, and find what and who had hurt his father so much, that he had became so cold.
'He almost sounded like a man trying to kill himself.' The Crown Prince thought to himself, before going stiff in his chair.
Trying to kill himself...
A war with the almighty dragons...
Oh lord.
"Emily! I think I have an explanation!" The Crown Prince sat upright, looking at his confused system.
◀ Huh? What do you have an explanation for, dear reader? ▶
"Remember you said that the only weird and uncalled for thing my father ever did, was to wage wars with a creature who had the god-like status; a creature that would have killed him without a second thought."
◀ Hayes, I'm not sure what are you trying to explain. Is there something more to it? The author never explained the phenomenon, so I believed it was just a plot hole to make him look like a bad person. ▶ Emily was now even more confused, what could this mistake from the author even explain?
"Emily, my father lost what he loved; he was probably suicidal. He was trying to kill himself, but the act of killing oneself isn't so easy for royals, so he waged a war he knew he was going loose, and might even die in the process. His winning was something he didn't want, or had thought of it. He wasn't trying to win the dragon's territory; he was trying to kill himself, Emily. My father was suicidal, and he might even be right now, just not that actively." Hayes eyes were wide with the realisation as he spoke it out loud.
Oh goodness.
Maybe he and his father weren't so different after all.
Emily was stunned, how had she not thought of this explanation? Whatever Hayes had said made perfect sense, even if the reality might be different, this theory still made sense. Just like a piece of puzzle fitting right in its place.
"Emily, freeze the time and check on my father. We need to get a completely psychoanalysis done before we leave." Pale fingers ran through the soft looking lilac hair, "I should have found it a bit odd when all the hints and warnings were always about an emotional outburst. Oh good lord, how could I be so ignorant?"
