A. N. : This is the edited version of chapter 11, and I hope you will like this new chapter better than the last, or at least a little better in the name of a slower and more engaging plot line. Kudos to all of my readers and beta readers who are still here with me, reading and encouraging me to write more.
Love you all and I hope I can be more productive this festive season and exam season, also this chapter is more of a back and forth between the empress and Ulah's perspectives on life and other things, so I would also love to hear your thoughts on the chapter and the book overall <33

Back in the Empress Palace, a hooded woman stood in front of the Empress as she presented a tabloid and some other documents containing information on the the royal highnesses new tutor, Celestine.
"Good. You are free to go for now, I'll call you again when I might need you." Audrey William Grace, the current Empress of Medea smiled coldy at the hooded woman who bowed down and then left through the window.
"Celestine, huh? Let's see how useful will you be to me after all."
There was nothing motherly or warm about the empress at all. Neither for her kids, nor about the empire she was a 'mother' to. Many knew of Audrey's own miserable past, and how she was forced into a marriage with Alexander, yet, none of that could ever make people of Medea overlook the fact that Audrey was a surprisingly cunning and cold woman.
Audrey was nothing like Alexander in his pain, Audrey blamed everyone else for her misery and lord oh lord did she not make others suffer for her own pain as well.
The empress was bitter; more venomous than the deadliest creature one could find in the world.
A woman who now had poison in her heart, and was determined to let everyone else suffer due to that poison. A horrible person, the maids and the knights whispered but none dared to defy her; after all, no matter how horrible, she was the one in power. She was the one who was their empress.
Royal Head Maid, Lorena Matthis was often unimpressed with the lack of care shown by her empress but what can one say when the emperor and empress are married in name?
Things could have been different if any of the two had tried to move on, but perhaps it was Lorena's own bias for Alexander, the boy she had raised along with previous empress who had been nothing but a sister to her.
Lorena could understand Alexander's unwillingness to move on, and even his bitterness but Audrey? She was like a stubborn child given the body of an adult. But once again, this might have been just Lorena and her bias for the child she did raise, and the child she had disliked since the beginning.
There were often fights and confrontations between the Royal Head Maid and the Empress causing the mood of the Empress Palace to often be gloomy and stiff.
Alexander even with his own heartbreak was a good ruler and cared for his kids (to a royal standard, but not emotionally), Audrey on the other hand acted as if Medea wasn't her home now, or the kids she bore weren't her.
The kids were a stranger to their mother, as much as that mother was a stranger to them. Things hadn't be great ever.
The kids were born out of magic, not through love. Yes, Audrey did bore them, but her and Alexander had never slept together, it was disgusting to even think of sharing her blanket with a man she didn't know, let alone love; so how could she let a man touch her skin?
