IN THE FREE CITY OF PENTOS, the only three known living Targaryen's, Viserys, Daenerys, and Maelys, live under the hospitality of a man named Illiryo Mopatis. Maelys, the youngest of the three siblings, sits on the railing of the balcony connected to the room she and her older sister, Daenerys, share. Daenerys stands at her side, leaning on the balcony railing as Maelys looks at the ground below her, her feet hanging over the edge.

"Daenarys!" Viserys' voice calls out from the entrance to the chambers his two sisters share as Daenarys moves from the balcony and from Maelys to stand in front of her brother. "Daenarys!" He says her name again, as he looks his sister up and down. "There's our bride-to-be!" Maelys cringes slightly as she listens to her brother speak. Though she would never say it to her brother, Maelys hated the fact Viserys was selling off their sister to the warlord of the Dothraki, Khal Drogo, purely for his gain.

"Look—a gift from Illyrio." Maelys turns her head in her two sibling's direction, looking at the gift Viserys is speaking of. "Touch it." He holds it out for Daenerys to touch, and Maelys sees it's a wedding veil. "Come on. Feel the fabric." He urges, and Daenerys reaches out a hand and strokes the veil reluctantly. "Isn't he a gracious host?" Viserys grins.

"We've been his guests for over a year, and he's never asked us for anything." Daenerys points out as she pulls her hand away from the veil and puts it back at her side.

"Illyrio is no fool." Viserys chuckles and shakes his head. "He knows I won't forget my friends when I come into my throne." He looks Daenerys up and down once more.

"You still slouch." Viserys points out, and Daenerys stands slightly straighter in response. "Let me see." He demands as he pulls off Daenerys' gown. "You have a woman's body now." Viserys mumbles, but he still speaks loud enough for his voice to cross over to Maelys. As she watches her brother's hand move to her sister's chest, his hand holding her breast, Maelys recoils and turns back around, looking back at the ground in a mix of disgust and fear for her brother. "I need you to be perfect today. Can you do that for me?" He requests, though his tone makes it clear it's a demand and not a request the question makes it sounds like. "You don't want to wake the dragon, do you?"
