I sat at my desk, typing away on my computer. I wanted to do a bit more research on this Tobias Jones person. Per usual, the internet pulled up several different Tobias Jones' around the world. I shook my head as I began to scroll through different news articles until one caught my eye,
'Man Linked to Drug Dealing Is Found Dead, Police Believe that Infamous Drug Lord, Tobias Jones is to Blame'
I read through the article that was posted to find some rather gruesome details. It seemed that this Tobias character was involved in more than just drug dealing. Seemed he was a part of illegal weapon distribution, human trafficking, and even prostitution. This man's background made me sick to my stomach. Even the picture of him was enough to make me recoil back in disgust. His gelled salt and pepper hair was slicked back, revealing the worst receding hairline that I've ever seen. His eyes screamed evil and danger with the way his darkened irises blended in with his pupils.
I printed out the article, as well as the photograph of him before digging a bit deeper with these articles. Perhaps, there could be cases online with testimonies against him on there. I dug deeper into the computer, not even realizing that someone was in my office.
"I'm shocked to see that you actually took a day off for once." Adam said with a hint of exhaustion.
"I needed it. After the shit I saw on Saturday, I needed that day to gather myself." I leaned back in my office chair, hearing it creak as I did so.
"Did you see your girl again?" He asked, knowing that his words would get under my skin.
"Yes, actually. Twice." To say he was surprised was nothing close to it.
"Damn, I was teasing, but okay. What happened?" He asked as he leaned his elbows on his knees.
"Well, for starters, she showed up to the office. Next thing you know, we're making out in her car." I rubbed my chin, still feeling her lips all over me.
"Sounds like you had an interesting night. Anything else happen? Specifically with Tanya?"
It was then when I was reminded of what went down between her and Cassie, causing me to chuckle in remembrance.
"How did you know?"
"Tanya and Olivia are like this."
He crossed his fingers together.
"She was talking mad shit about you and this girl. Said that she disrespected her and if I remember correctly, she said that she could've taken her if she wanted to, but figured walking away would show grace and dignity." I threw my head back in laughter at his words.
"She couldn't have taken Cassie. That girl would have been squashed in an instance. You should've heard how Cassie handed it to her, it was priceless."
"How you manage to get yourself caught between two women, I'll never understand." He shook his head, stretching his arms over his head.
"If I could tell you, I would. You look like shit by the way." I smirked with a laugh.
"If you've had the past few nights like I did, you would look like shit too." His words caught me off guard.
"Uh oh, what happened? Trouble in paradise?" He shook his head, almost in disbelief.
"No, but you wouldn't believe this maniac the other night. The guy was driving like his life depended on it. Swerving in and out of lanes, breaking the speed limit by at least forty miles per hour, it was unbelievable. Next thing you know, the guy disappears. We've been searching all over for the car for the last couple of nights, but we have yet to find it."
My heart dropped to my stomach.
"W-What did the car look like?"
I prayed that he wasn't trailing Cassie, or better yet, didn't see me with Cassie.
"Grey mustang, I'd say around a 2006 model. The thing was built to race from the looks of it, which explains how it outran us."
Shit.
"A-And the driver?" He shrugged his shoulders, shaking his head.
"Didn't see him. The windows were tinted so much that you couldn't see through them. Another broken law with that. You won't believe the amount of paperwork that we've filed for the last two days on just this incident. It's been pure hell."
I didn't know what to say to that. Adam was chasing down Cassie and I that night. What's crazy though, she's been driving around in her car, but still hasn't been caught. Which is a good sign. I should at least warn her about it though.
"Sounds like you've got your hands full. Wish I could help." He nodded his head.
"Trust me, so do I. I about need a detective on this with the way things are going. But who knows, I could get lucky." He stood up from his seat, adjusting his hip holster.
"Yeah, hopefully."
I felt a bit uneasy. I needed to talk to Cassie. As soon as Adam left, I quickly pulled out my phone and went for Cassie and I's message chain,
Just wanted to give you a heads up. Cops here are looking for your car. Heard that you broke the speed limit by at least 40 and are facing tickets for reckless driving, public endangerment, and your tint percentage. Be careful out there. x
I pressed send and went back to doing a bit more research on Tobias Jones. The man was obviously not discreet about his dealing, nor his other focuses. Which doesn't make any sense. For someone who has the background that he does, why hasn't he been arrested? I got up from my desk to seek out Mayfair.
On the way there, I caught a glimpse of Tanya. She gave me a straight-faced look before taking a seat at her desk. Olivia noticed the exchange and immediately gave me a soft smile. I wasn't worried about it because that was one less burden for me to deal with on a daily basis. I found Mayfair in her office, scoping through a bunch of files.
"Knock, knock." She glanced up from what she was doing, putting her glasses back on the bridge of her nose.
"Hey, come on in. What can I do you for?"
Her auburn hair was strung in all different directions, making it seem as if she'd been working hard on whatever she was doing.
"I was hoping you could help me with something." She closed the files and leaned forward on her elbows.
"Shoot."
"I was doing some research on Tobias. The guy has quite a messy background. He deals openly and partakes in his other interests in public too. I'm just not sure why our focus isn't on getting him?" She sat in thought for a moment.
"Honestly, the last few times that LAPD officers have tried to book him, there's never been enough evidence on him. He is one of the most sought after drug lords in LA, but the problem is, he usually has people doing the dirty work for him. He practically owns Los Angeles." I shook my head, thinking heavily on this.
"We need to not only focus our attention on Parker Chandler, but also on Tobias. He's involved in far more illegal acts than Chandler is. I have a feeling that we may be advancing into something that's far beyond us."
