Complicated

After properly gathering myself I made my way out of the precinct to find her standing by her car, waiting for my arrival. I smiled deeply when I saw her grin from ear to ear. She opened the drivers side door as she waited for me to join her. I hopped in the passenger side as she closed the door to the drivers side, tearing out of the precinct parking lot as if our lives depended on it.

Watching her drive was simply enough to send me over the edge. Her fingers gripped the steering wheel so roughly that I wished it were me she was grabbing. I shook my head to rid myself of the thoughts before things got too far out of hand.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked her aloud.

"If I told you, then it wouldn't be a surprise would it?"

She kept her eyes on the road as we zoomed in and out of traffic smoothly. It felt as if we were flying with the way she was driving. With one hand on the steering wheel and another running through her hair, I took the time to evaluate each of her facial features. The heart shape of her face, the look of her beautifully sculpted nose, the slight pout to her lips. It was a masterpiece. She was a masterpiece.

It took us a bit longer to reach our destination. I was both shocked and confused as to her choice of designation.

"The Hollywood sign?" I half asked half stated.

"Surprised, aren't ya?"

She giggled as she hopped out of the car and walked towards sign. I followed her willingly as we walked side by side to the sign, sitting down as soon as soon as we found an appropriate spot.

"I don't think I've ever been here before." I commented lowly as the sight of Los Angeles lit up the sky like the evening rays.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" She had stars in her eyes as she looked admirably at the city.

"Yeah, it is." I replied. Though she was talking about the city, I was more focused on the angel beside me.

"This is my thinking spot. I come up here whenever I need to just break away from life or to just think. No one really comes up here at this time of night, which makes it even better." I smiled at her as she reminisced on those moments.

"Seems like you've spent quite a bit of time here." She scoffed in laughter.

"You have no idea."

We sat in silence, just taking in the scene around us. I get what she meant about it being a good place to think. All you could hear was the wind blowing by us, softly causing the infamous letters to sway to its beat. I inhaled deeply and exhaled the same as I just let my thoughts run wild.

"Can I ask you something?"

I said to her, breaking the silence. She glanced at me, giving me the go ahead to continue with my question.

"Why won't you say anything about Parker Chandler?" She looked forward again, completely expressionless.

"It's a lot more complicated than what you think." I think that's the first personal thing she has said in regards to him.

"How so?" She looked over at me, and didn't say anything.

"It just is. Nothing to go off of." Trying to get information out of her was like pulling teeth, painful and not useful.

We sat there for a while longer. No conversation, no movements, just stillness and peace. Something that I feel like I've been lacking for quite some time. In those moments, I thought about me and Cassie. If things ever advanced with the way things were going between us, what would happen? Thoughts like that were constantly running through my head, but I chose to overlook them for now.

"Are you ready?" She asked me, looking as if she was growing frustrated.

"Um, yeah, sure."

She got up rather quickly, just as I did. I began to walk beside her, trying to take in her essence. I think she either stepped on something, or lost her balance, but in a split second her body began to fall. Before she could make contact with the ground, I placed my arms underneath her, cradling her against my chest. Her eyes searched mine endlessly as I continued to keep a firm hold on her. Electric currents rushed through my arms the longer I held her. I rubbed the small of her back softly as I began to lift her back up to her feet.

"Th-Thanks."

She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as we continued our walk to the car. I shook my head at her attempt to constantly keep up this stone cold stature, but why? What was there to keep to herself?
