Chapter 6: Long Way Home
-
Im Rae Ya's POV
"Koo Junhoe, you are so dead!" I scowled.
"You have to thank me for saving you from those girls that tried to pull your hair," he answered smugly, ignoring my words. "If I didn't pull you with me, you're probably bald now."
"If you didn't pull me with you, I'm probably at home now unpacking the stuff we bought," I shot back. "Speaking of the stuff Yunhee and I bought... Where is it?!"
"Relax, I saw Yunhee bring all the shopping bags with her when they ran."
"How. Can. I. Relax. We're lost!! I don't even know where this place is, I think I left my phone in one of the shopping bags, my feet hurt and I badly need to pee!" I said through gritted teeth.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry! Happy?"
"I'll only be happier if we get home," I stated.
"Do you want me to carry you on my back?" He offered.
"I'm heavy, but I won't say no to that because you suck," I laughed. He bent over, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. He held the back of my legs carefully.
He started to walk towards the direction that we came from. We were both quiet. I can feel him breathing heavily while he walked with me on his back. I placed my head on his shoulder because I was so tired from all the running and hair pulling (lol).
After a few minutes, I fell asleep.
-
I woke up to see that the sun has already set, and I was still on Junhoe's back.
"Are we there yet?" I asked.
"Good morning," he chuckled. "Nope, not yet. But I can feel that we're already close to the dorm."
"Aren't you tired though? I can walk now," I suggested.
"Thank God! I thought I was gonna suffer for the rest of my life," he exclaimed, putting me down on the ground. I gently hit his back.
"I'm not that heavy!" I pouted.
"Yes you are! It felt like I was carrying 2 sacks of rice on my back," he teased.
"Whatever, Junhoe." I rolled my eyes. I swear he drives me crazy!
We walked and walked and walked, and we're still not home! Only a few people were around and there were no cars passing by.
"Are you sure it's this way?" I asked.
"Yes, I already know this place," he said. "I chose to go this way because there are less people here."
And so we walked in silence for about 15 minutes. Still no sign of the dorm.
"Are you really really sure it's this way?" I asked again.
"Yes! Just walk quietly, little kid!"
We were both silent again for a few seconds.
"Are we there yet?"
"Nope."
"Are we there yet?"
"Almost," he answered patiently.
"What about now?"
"Raeya," he stopped walking. "Do you see the dorm? No. So that means we're not there yet. But if you just walked quietly, we'll be there in no time."
"Okay, Sir Koo Junhoe," I laughed. His face is so funny when he's trying to be patient! "So... Are we almost there?"
"Argh, Raeya! You make me want to shoot myself," he said.
"I'm kidding! Okay, okay. I'll shut up," I giggled. It was fun annoying him.
We both stayed quiet for a long time. I looked around and saw huge houses. The neighborhood is peaceful. We passed by a park with a cute little fountain.
"You know," I started. "When I was younger, my mom used to take me to parks like this and we would sit all day eating the snacks she prepared."
"Me too," he answered. "My sister and I would play hide and seek and the winner gets to eat 3/4 of what our mom cooked."
"That sounds fun," I commented. "I never had anyone to play with when I was younger."
"Why not?"
"I'm an only child... and maybe because I was too shy to ask anyone," I snickered in embarrassment. "I was a bashful kid."
"Sad childhood," he teased. He thought for a moment and then his whole face lit up. "When the boys and I have time, we can go to a park and play!" He exclaimed excitedly. The idea of playing with them made me adrenalized. I've never played any childish game with anyone before.
"Yes! Like a picnic," I suggested.
"And you'll bake me cupcakes," he added.
"Sure." I laughed.
We didn't notice that we were almost there. I felt relieved that I can finally pee in peace! I didn't even feel tired walking with Junhoe.
We went in their building and rode the elevator to Yunhee's floor (since Junhoe said that girls aren't allowed in their dorm - a law made by my uncle-completely forgetting the fact that Yunhee and I have visited their dorm before) and found everyone there.
"Where have the 2 of you been?!" Yunhee exclaimed worriedly.
"5 girls were after us, and Mr. Koo clever Junhoe took me somewhere we didn't know, and got lost on our way back," I explained like it was the most common thing in the world.
"Are you both okay?" Jinhwan asked.
"I'm not," Junhoe complained. "My back hurts from of carrying Ms. Im blabber-mouth Rae Ya here."
"Hey! You offered to carry me!" I shot back.
He raised both his hands in defeat. Yunhee pulled me towards her.
"Okay, now that they're here, we should all probably rest." She announced. "It has been a long day."
"I agree." Jinhwan said.
Bobby hugged her sister. "I'm sorry about today, sis."
"It's not your fault," she assured. "but we could use some warning next time."
Bobby apologized to the two of us again before following the other boys.
"Junhoe," I called.
He turned to me.
"Uh, thanks for today." I mumbled.
"What was that?" Junhoe asked.
"I said thank you." I repeated, hating the way he's looking at me.
He laughed. He's laughing at me again! This jerk.
"Well I don't think you'll appreciate being bald" He teased.
I threw a pillow at him. "Just go!"
When the door closed, I heard a loud sigh.
"What's wrong?" I asked Yunhee. "You look a bit shaken up."
"I am," she heaved another sigh. She laid down on her bed and closed her eyes. "So, you look like you had fun with Junhoe."
"What? Me? No!"
"Are we gonna have this conversation again?" She chuckled.
I laughed with her.
"We'll have this conversation tomorrow."
