BILBO

i was sitting on my nice grey chair with gandalf, away from the dwarfs who were all sitting round the fire in our living area, so we could have a private conversation. i look into the dark grey eyes of the wizard in front of me and beg him to be honest with me, fully honest.
he nodded with an understanding expression on his face like he knew where this was going, he waved his hand, gesturing for me to continue.

"gandalf can you tell me that we will come home, better that can you promise me she will?"

he took a deep breath in and turned to stare down the corridor leading too roses room and then turning back to me.
"no bilbo i'm afraid i cannot promise that yous will both come home, but if yous do, neither of yous will be the same" i sigh, my head falling back onto the head rest of the chair.

i hear thorin singing a song with his deep voice, making me feel relaxed for the first time of the evening. i wanted to help them i really did, but when roses life was on the line, i just couldn't put her in danger.

ROSEMARY

i yawn as i wake up, cursing myself quietly for letting myself fall asleep. i get up confused as i hear no noise of dwarfs or anyone in the house, stumbling towards my bedroom door, i open it as quietly as i can to not wake anyone.
scrambling down the hallway, searching the rooms the dwarfs and wizard were in when i left, searching the whole house until i reach the doorway, there coats, swords, axes, bows.. gone
them, there gone, my one opportunity to leave the shire, to get out of this place slipped through my fingers in the dawn of night.

a single tear drop fell down my face and landed on my worn dress from yesterday, i would not let myself cry, i wouldn't, i couldn't.

"rose, are u alright there?" i spin on my heels seeing bilbos worried face, his eyes, scanning my own for answers.
"there gone bilbo, they left while we slept"
as those words fall out, i take a better look at my cousin, who is fully dressed, not in his usual attire, his coat already on, a larger bag than needed for simple day to day things in his hand.

realisation hit me, i stood there in shock, he was going to leave too? while i was sound asleep. "yes rose there gone, and i'm following them, i want to help them but i need you to stay here and stay safe"
the shock completely leaving my face, anger taking its place, how could he, he knows all i want is to leave the shire, leave the memories of my past that haunt me daily.

"you cannot force me to stay here, i am a grown adult and if i want to come with you i have every right too, this was my dream, to leave the shire, not yours!" the last words raised, trying not to shout at the man who took me in. he opens his mouth to say something but i cut him off. "no you will not leave me here bilbo, i will not be alone again, you promised me, and i cannot sit here and worry about you even coming home. i'm coming end of"

bilbo just stares at me, not saying anything, we just stand there in silence for what feels like minutes. he waves his hand "get dressed then"
my smile reappears and i nod in his direction before hurrying back to my room to get dressed and put my hair up, i got a bag with one change of clothes in it.
i stand there looking in the mirror "it's time" i whisper to myself, turning on my heels and kneeling at the side of the bed, i pull a big black case out and lift it onto the bed.

my breathing quickens in excitement, i open the case and pull out my bow, my mothers bow, i stare at it in awe, thankful to finally use it.
i pull out my quiver and pull it over my shoulder, it has all the arrows i own in it already, and then two small knifes and knife straps, i strap them onto my ankles under my boots and place the knifes in.

i get up take a long deep breathe and head out to the doorway where bilbo is waiting on me. we say goodbye to our home, bilbo dreading the thought of never seeing it again and get on our way running through the shire, and out until we see some horses in the distance.

"wait wait wait, we're coming" the horses come to a halt as all the dwarfs turn there heads to see us running towards them.

we're going on an adventure.
