After lots of tests, exams, and pain, the doctor told us it would only put me back in a wheel car for a month. Yippee!! Wait, that didn't sound exciting? Well, good because I'm going to crush Miss 'I'm so pretty's face with my managing clip broad as soon as her out-stuck, plastic witch nose makes a clear shot in my view. Man, do I wish I could just stick an ax in between her shoulder blades. Maybe Heather will help. Well, with at least burying the body. She and Hiccup will be my alibi. Yes, indeed. I would win the war even though Rachel won the last battle. I will beat her.

Hiccup took us both right home after the hospital trip. He was oddly quiet and seemed to have his mind wandering elsewhere. "Hiccup?" I asked. No response. "Hiccup?" I sang. Still, no answer. This time I pinched him hard.

"Ow! Why would you do that?" He asked as we pulled into the driveway.

"That was for not listening as I called out your name." Then, I punched his arm harder. "And that was for everything else during the car ride. Want to shed some light on the object circulating in your head right now?"

"I'm sorry, Astrid, can you ask that same question in a few days. My brain is about to explode."

"Explode from what?"

"Blue prints."

From there he helped me inside to the couch before he disappeared out the door without a second glance.

It had been about three days of Hiccup disappearing like that. He'd wake up, make breakfast, take us to school, vanish throughout the entire day before taking me home, only to head out until two in the morning. I had enough, but he came home by 8pm today instead.

"Where have you been? What are you doing? Why are you gone all the time?"

"I was working on something and I finally finished it. It'll be ready for testing tomorrow. Oh, and I got something for us."

"Us?! I didn't know there was still an us with you always gone for three days straight. And what on earth were you making?"

"I promise, you'll see it tomorrow. As well as the gift. It'll make things a lot easier for you and maybe a lot more pleasant for our relationship. But I promise, tomorrow. I'll take you on a date after school to make up for being a crappy boyfriend. Fair?"

I huffed out a breath. "Fine, but it better be a really good date." I rolled over on the couch and slept hard because for once in the past few days, I finally knew that Hiccup was home and safe.
