After Webpaw and the kits got back from gathering herbs (they managed to find a good amount of goldenrod before the Hootkit incident), Lilacpaw went out by herself.
By now, she knew the forest like the back of her paw, and wasn't scared of it at all, although she was terrified that she might stumble across a dog, like Webpaw did, or even a fox, or badger. She always listened carefully for potential danger.
Her sense of smell, and knowledge of what exactly she was smelling, was much better than it had been a moon ago, which was why, as she stopped to look around for any prey or predators nearby, she knew that something was there. Or rather, someone.
Lilacpaw was shocked. Could she have found someone who might join the little clan? Was the cat Brighthawk, or someone else?
Her questions were answered when, only a few heartbeats later, she saw a fluffy black speckled she-cat in the distance, eyeing Lilacpaw curiously. Lilacpaw beckoned to the she-cat with her tail, and after a bit of hesitation, the she-cat cautiously walked over.
"H- hello there! I'm... Lilacpaw, who are you?" asked Lilacpaw. "I'm Mumble, nice to meet you," returned the strange cat politely. "So, uh, what brings you here, Mumble?" asked Lilacpaw. "Well, I'm a loner, always have been. But I was thinking of joining one of the groups- er, clans, around here, so I figured I'd just walk around until some clan cat found me," Mumble explained.
Lilacpaw beamed. "I live in a clan! A small one too!" The moment she said it, she worried it would drive the loner away. It was what had caused Brighthawk not to join, anyway.
Mumble smiled. "How small is your clan?" she asked. Lilacpaw hesitated, then murmured, "Six cats. But we're all apprentices, almost!" she added quickly. Mumble nodded, her mind already made up.
