BUCHAREST

Appearing in the middle of the apartment, both on their knees, Alex stole a quick glance around. There was a dining table next to a basic kitchen. A couch and small tv in one corner. A window that led out to a staircase on the side of the building, and two doors. The entry and the balcony. It was a small abode but decent.

A dull thump sounded behind and her gaze cut to Bucky who was now unconscious on the floor. She willed up a protective shield around the apartment and then let the exhaustion take her.

When she woke up, Alex felt a soft surface beneath her body. She blinked, adjusting to the soft light in the room before glancing around. She was on the couch while Bucky was on the floor, leaning against the wall, clearly asleep. Alex tried to swallow but her throat felt like sandpaper, causing a slight discomfort.

Pushing herself up to sit was probably the worst idea, because her head began to spin and throb with an oncoming headache, and nausea. Slowly she swiped her legs off the couch, letting her feet meet the floor. She cringed at the onset of pain at the back of her neck. Tension so strong it almost made her pass out.

Taking a deep breath, and giving herself a quick mental pep talk, Alex forced herself up. The whole room spun like a carnival ride, and just before she could take a step towards the kitchen, her body caved, crashing to the floor in a loud thump.

Bucky shot awake, heart beating so fast it almost popped right out of his chest. He scrambled over instantly to help her. The sound of her name from his lips, even as shocked and scared as it was made her want to tear up.

"I'm...okay," She forced out, feeling his supportive hold on her arm as he helped her sit back on the couch.

"No, you're not..." He stood awkwardly fidgeting with his sleeves, Bucky had no idea how to act, what to say, or what to even do.

She broke the tension, a little. "I just...i wanted some water,"

He nodded and walked to the small kitchen. It was a pleasant sight to see the entire single door fridge was stocked with things they would need for at least two-three weeks. He grabbed two bottles of water and walked back, sitting on the couch but keeping a solid distance between them.

Alex didn't really want to think about it too much, but it definitely hurt. However, it was to be expected. There was no telling the extent of damage yet, she didn't know if all his memories returned, or if they were still doing so gradually.

Taking the bottle from his outstretched hand, Alex twisted the lid and opened it, taking small sips and being extremely thankful to have the liquid coat her mouth and throat. It was like an essence missing from her body. And in that moment, her eyes glazed for a split second as Jace's voice played across her mind.

"Easy, firecracker...you'll make yourself sick if you drink too fast."

Alex looked down at the water sloshing in the bottle as she moved it side to side, and a type of sadness crawled along her chest for a moment.

"How long have i been out?" She asked, shaking the feeling off, and equally snapping Bucky out of his own thoughts.

"Two days..."

Alex slid her soft gaze to him, just as he looked down to the bottle in his hands. She watched him scratch at the label mindlessly. Bucky Barnes had never felt more awkward in his entire life than in this moment.

"Think you could make some toast?...or something to eat?..." She asked. His gaze met hers for a moment.

"Yeah...yeah, of course, i can do that," He nodded and headed back to the kitchen. It was clear he was just glad to be given something to do. Keep his hands and mind busy. Occasionally though, Bucky would steal a glance at her, making sure she was okay.
