The clock on the wall in front of me doesn't work. I don't know if that's some kind of power play, but it's pissing me off that I'm in this lobby waiting on an interview with someone who asked me to be here early—well, asked Zeus.
I looked down at my phone that was sitting on my lap. The new publisher for Brysin's Publishing is late. Thirty minutes late, to be exact. I'm two minutes away from just leaving. Despite having stocks in Tolliver's Publishing, I'm about to say hell with this.
The sound of light steps pulled my attention away from my phone—a nice-looking young man in a white button-up and navy blue slacks.
"Mrs. Tolliver?" His voice was kind of high. He looked almost nervous. What is up with assistants being nervous around me?
I tried for a comforting smile, standing up with a folder and my phone. "Yes."
He nodded his head. A light blush crept on his cheeks. "She'll see you now?"
She? I didn't know the new CEO was a woman. Granted, I should have done some research, but all of this sprung on me last night, and my attention was on everything but this.
After snatching my arm back and turning around, it took me forever to go to sleep. I could hear Zeus's breathing. She was awake most of the night too. I regretted taking my hand back as soon as I did it.
I don't know why I'm such a bitch to her lately, but I've got to do better. She may not be cheating, but she's keeping something from me. Something that's been haunting her for years.
I want the woman who used to fight me back. I want the woman who loved our games. I once thought I was falling out of love with her, but I think I'm just longing for something I lost.
When I woke up this morning, she was already gone. I didn't hear her get ready. When I walked into the bathroom, I saw it was unused, and the shower hadn't been touched. Later, I figured she used one of the guest restrooms to get ready for the day.
The assistant gestured his hand toward a hall. "Follow me, please."
Following the man, we made it to the end of the hall, past a few conference rooms. The door was shut, and I could hear steps from behind it.
"Here we are." The young man said, smiling at me before walking away.
I took a deep breath and opened the door. Who was standing at their desk looking at me was not who I thought I would be seeing.
The brown-skinned woman in a grey suit with a black button-up looked at me with wide, shocked eyes. Very striking brown shocked eyes. Her locs tied up above her head.
I stepped further into the room, the door shutting behind me. "Hera?"
I gave her a tight smile. "Achilles, I didn't know you were in the publishing business. Word of advice maybe don't keep your clients waiting. Looks unprofessional." I say tightly.
Achilles and I used to be friends in college, we weren't terribly close, but we did, on occasion, study together, eat lunch, and sometimes dinner. Rarely went to some of the universities sports games. We lost touch after graduation. I haven't heard much about her, but I wished her well.
She stepped up to me, her eyes sparkling. Similar to how Zeus looks at me when I wake up.
It's very strange, considering that I look disgusting after waking up, yet Zeus sees me as a Goddess.
