Chapter 23: Hera

I walked into Hestia's room, Alexander stuffing the baby bag with diapers and wipes and Hestia on the hospital bed, breastfeeding Theodore.

She smiled when I walked in. I've been here for about three hours now since Zeus left. I've held Theodore once. I gave him back after two minutes because I got nervous. I don't really know why I'm still here. Hestia seems fine. Alexander has everything under control.

"Why are you still here?" well, it seems I'm not the only one worried about that.

She looked down at Theodore breastfeeding. "I'm here to make sure you're okay. And to make sure Mom and Dad don't try and come in here."

I heard her groan. "They're still here?"

I shook my head, moving to stand at the end of the bed. "No, they left a little before Zeus did."

"You mean where you made her leave." she looked back at me. "I wish you wouldn't have. I would have liked to thank her."

I pointed to Alexander, who moved to sit on the couch in the room. "He did that for you, so no need. And she would have just told you the same thing she told me and Alex."

"You should go home and get some rest. I can see in your eyes how tired you are. I promise I'm fine; if something goes wrong, Alex will call you."

I looked down at my hands, shamed. "I don't want to go home alone."

"Then go to your wife. You know, for someone married, you keep trying to live this very strange single life." 

I scoffed. "Am not. Okay, I just... I want things from her that I'm not getting."

She laughed. "From what I heard, she's been giving you a lot. Publicly apparently."

I flipped her off, and Alex laughed from the couch. "It's not just sex that I want from her. I want honesty, and she's been skimping out on that part of our marriage. She has for years. I've just been too fucking love blind to see it."

"What is she not being true about?"

I shrugged. "Well, at your baby shower, I found out she didn't want to have kids because she didn't want them around her dad, but I don't know why." I really wish Hestia's birth could have waited just a little longer, so I could finally get some answers out of Zeus.

"Why not go to her now and talk to her? Get some answers out of her. Or at least something to ease whatever shit you're going through." Hestia cringed. "He bit my nipple." Alexander was up and alert. She shook her head. "It's fine. The nurse said he might do that. It's just that he doesn't even have teeth, which stung."

I watched the whole encounter. She looked back at me. "Either way, you need to have an adult conversation with her."

"What if she doesn't want to talk about the things I want to talk about?"

"Well, then you have two options. You be patient with her like she's with you. Or file for divorce. Either way, your issues will be resolved." She said with a yawn.

This isn't the best time to talk to Hestia. "I'm sorry, you don't want to hear about this right now."

She shrugged lightly. "Honestly, it's a great distraction from a slight throbbing above my vagina because my firstborn decided to be difficult." she and Alexander laughed. "Look, just try. That's what this whole separation thing is about, isn't it? You are both at least trying to fix your marriage. Now leave this hospital before I have security come to get you."
