Time had slowed down as I watched the glaring light from the metro train race towards the toddler.
I cursed and jumped onto the tracks. My hands instinctively wrapped around the child's middle. I lifted them off the tracks and onto the platform above.
I didn't scream, didn't get a noise out before the train slammed into me, crushing every bone in my body.
I gasped for air, instead getting a mouth full of blood. My body went slack, blood pouring out of me. A single tear slipped out of my eyes as I let go.
Everything was dark, empty.
I'm dead. Well shi-
"Hello Kamiko." An ethereal voice said from no specific direction.
"Uhhh.... Hi?" I responded, looking around for signs of life. Or, rather, death.
"I'm afraid I'm rather busy, so I'll make this short. Me and the other gods got bored and decided to place a bet on you. You aren't allowed to know what it is. Anywho, you'll be reincarnated into the anime you so loved, My Hero Academia, with any quirk you want. You will be the same age as the Midoria character, though put through some ... different circumstances."
I broke for a second. "What?"
"So, what ability would you like. It can be as overpowered as you want, just saying."
I recovered quickly but thought my quirk through. I grinned, but I didn't have a mouth exactly. "I want to be able to shapeshift into ANY character I want and use their abilities without their drawbacks." I announced. "I want to be able to use it two hours at a time with 30 minutes of rest in between."
"Or you'll throw up blood again!"
I paused. "What?"
"Nothing! Have fun!"
"Hey!" I started falling through a portal of some sort.
My ass hit the ground with a loud smack.
"Mother Fucker! That hurt!"
I looked around to catch my bearings.Tall brick walls were on either side of me, streaked with dirt and graffiti.
I blinked. Annnnd I'm lost. Maybe I should try out that ability. But who to be? Someone with a gps ability? No, I don't no where to go. What do I do?
Someone stepped in front of me pulling me from my thoughts. "Hello, small child." Their voice was gruff and cold.
My gaze traveled up some expensive ass Armani suit or something to see a scarred face with fucking purple eyes.
Purple eyes? This is an anime, I suppose it's normal enough.
Next to him was a gorgeous woman with pretty blue curls and eyes that contrasted her coffee skin. A tight black tanktop hugged her figure and black pants matched them.
"Ehm, hello."His violet eyes looked around. "Where are your parents?"
I snorted. "Well, daddy dearest left for some milk a while ago and my mom is in a cemetery somewhere.
Mr.Rich Guy blinked twice, then collected himself. "How would you like to come with me?"
"Desmond?" The woman asked uncertainly.
"Shush, Esemer." The man said cruely. "We won't abandon you." His tone went back to baby talking me.
Do I really have a choice? There isn't a lot I can do without parents and I don't have a plan quite yet. I feel good about the woman, Esemer, but the Desmond guy is radiating asshole vibes. Guess I'll find out.
"Okay." I said hesitantly, knowing I would 100% regret it.
The man grinned and the woman smiled sadly at me.
Desmond winked at me. "Welcome to the family kid."
Over the next three years I'd moved into the family's mansion and adopted the Piercefell family name.
Of course, that came with some... curious additions.
"Now, Kamiko, when mastering any weapon, you do not seek haste. Haste is the number one enemy, it is but an illusion. It is a lie." My 'father' circled me as I held my form. "The truth is timing, control, and elegance. There is no worry about being slow, so long is you hit your target at the right time, the right place."
He sat down on his throne, sorry, chair, watching me closely. "Begin."My opponent eyed me down, anxious to escape. "I'm sorry, kid, but it's you or me." He lunged at me, dagger in hand.
I danced out of the way, sweeping low and swiping my leg against his left leg's tendon. "I know."
He fell to the floor, screaming.
I might have felt bad for him if I didn't know what he'd done to those girls. I mercilessly drove my dagger in between his 3rd and 4th ribs, straight to his heart.
My 'father' clapped. "Well done, Kamiko. You may go see that friend of yours after you wash up. Don't forget about the gala this evening. "
I bowed stiffly. "Yes sir." I turned around, wiping my blade off on the towel. I strode back to my room, bumping into my mother on the way.
"Kamiko! You're all bloody, what happened?" She stressed, her upper brow wrinkling as she rubbed her wrists.
I beamed up at her. "Oh don't worry! It's not mine!"
She froze in her place, a look of horror on her normally loving features. "What?"
I laughed. "Don't worry, I'm only joking. I was painting with Desmond and spilled some of it on myself."
She smiled thinly. "Of course."
I put my hand on her shoulder. "Hey, what's wrong? Do you not want to go to the gala? I'm sure we could tell the other guests you're ill."
She hesitated to answer. "I'm fine, but I'm worried about you. You've been ... spilling quite a bit lately."I stiffened. "Yes, I suppose I have. Perhaps I'm just clumsy. Well, I need to clean up, I have a meeting with a friend soon."
She gave me another smile, a real one this time. "That's good, dear! Go ahead, don't let me get in your way!"
I relaxed for the moment. "You're never in the way, Mom." I smiled at her one last time and left to change.
