"But how?" Taehyung asks, "I don't understand how he's gone. I thought destroying the chest would set him free permanently."
"So did I, but, to be honest," Jungkook sheepishly admits, "I kind of just acted on impulse. No offense to you, Jin-hyung, but I didn't think the water thing would work very well, and when we were talking, when Asmodeus showed up for the last time I noticed when the Chest of Demons was near him that it started flickering and acting weird, almost as if it had come to life and knew that it didn't want him back inside either."
"Well, technically the Chest of Demons is a celestial device that acts as a living, breathing, prison for whatever is inside it. Since Asmodeus had been trapped inside for so long, it probably started to recognize him and register that he belonged there for the safety of himself and everyone else. So when you destroyed it, because it was alive too and it was what was keeping him alive, it eliminated both of them at once."
"Oh. Look, I don't care how it happened as long as he is gone. He tore the veil between our worlds, and now our creatures are spilling in with the mortals. They've nearly destroyed half of downtown Seoul!"
"What're you talking about, Jungkook?" Taehyung asks now, confused.
"What do you mean? Asmodeus destroyed everything when he broke free. Don't you see all the fires, the storm, and the dead bodies?"
Taehyung and Seokjin look around before saying, "No, they're all gone."
"What do you mean they're gone?!" Jungkook panics. This morning all he worried about was his birthday and possible coronation as king to court his mate, not saving the world and cleaning up after Asmodeus' mess because he decided to steal Jungkook's mate and destroy the cosmos.
"Look around, Kook," Taehyung replies, "It's all gone."
Jungkook gasped when he looked around the outside view of the temple to see that everything in its original state had returned to normal, and Taehyung was indeed right. The park, temple, and everything around it looked completely untouched! "But how is that possible?" He asks how. "It looks completely untouched!"
"I would guess that when you destroyed the Chest of Demons it undid all of the damage Asmodeus caused and forced the rift to close because it altered our timeline. I'm sure because of that the mortals likely won't remember any of what happened, and will just think they had a very strange Halloween."
"It's just so crazy. It looks completely untouched as if it never happened. But then...does that mean that everything is back to normal as if it never happened?" Jungkook asks hopefully, and Taehyung smiles, about to reassure his best friend before turning away.
