Some time before the "Children's Revolution"-
They call it the Future Foundation, but it's totally not at all. For serious, why are we moving out in helicopters in this day and age? If you got a fancy name like the Future Foundation, why can't you give us a Cessna or a warphole or something?
"-Uurrrgh!"
As I started to throw up, my coworkers started saying things like "Stick it out" and "We're almost at Towa City," and all gave their own reactions to try and prevent the inside of the helicopter from becoming a real hell-icopter, but I wasn't actually airsick at all.
This was an act. I was just pretending to be sick. It's not that I didn't feel a pang of guilt for tricking my coworkers, but it can't be helped. I mean, I'm over 8 million yen in debt. I had to act like I was totally wasted on the helicopter heading to Towa City if I wanted to pay that back.
Beneath the "missing blue sky"-the helicopter carrying twenty of us Future Foundation members arrived at the helipad that had been made on the rooftop of one of the buildings.
"W-Wait, let me ouuuuuuutttt!" I pushed my way past my coworkers and jumped out of the helicopter as fast as I could go. I kept going, down the emergency staircase to the outdoors, and finally let out a sigh as I hit the bottom.
"...The plan's a success so far at least."
Now all I had to do was find some expensive stuff to stash in my bag. Towa City's machines were gonna sell big. I guess they're all about the latest, most cutting-edge technology in the world, so the techno-geeks would fall all over themselves trying to get their hands on one of those... So I just need to steal some Towa City tools and machines- ...I mean, borrow them, and temporarily pawn them off to generate some money, is definitely what I meant.
So that's why I had to go out of my way to pretend like I was airsick, so I could sneak out of the building on my own. I was patting myself on the back, but I'd feel a little awkward stealing from the building the Future Foundation helicopter had landed on.
"So without further delay..."
Expensive stuff... I scoped out the area. But I was right in the middle of the business district.
Modern looking buildings were just lined up one after the other, towering over their surroundings, and I couldn't see anything like what I was looking for.
"I guess it's like, he who knows most speaks least, huh."
I kinda got the feeling that maybe I was using that phrase wrong, but whatever, no one was even listening. I heard today's a holiday, and since this was the business district, I didn't sense anyone else in the area. Time to go through the business district and keep my eyes peeled for anything expensive.
"...Mmph!"
I went into an alleyway between two tall buildings, and something caught my eye. It looked kinda like a payphone-what is this?
It was a glass rectangular box. There wasn't anything inside. Modern art? Some kind of sculpture? No, it can't be that. I'd read something in a pamphlet like this. Anything you find on the streets in Towa City has about an 80% chance of being some kind of machine. This must also be some kind of mysterious high-tech machine, so I'd probably get a lot of money if I pawned it.
"I've decided to make you the first of my spoils!"
I'll steal-borrow this, and make a down payment on my debt! ...Or that's what I wanted to say, but it was the size of a payphone. I can't do anything about it if it's too big... But I can't just give up!
"Nuoooooooohhhh!"
Adopting a stance as if I were carrying a cabinet out from the scene of a fire, I tried to pick up the mystery machine. A red light and a resounding warning noise like a police siren started up. The erratic ringing in my ears alerted me to danger.
