Claus had gotten up early, washed off, dressed nicely, even prepared himself a nice breakfast. Today was the day, he reminded himself way too often. He was going to tell Ninten. Lucas had told him that it was a bit stupid to hype himself up this much, even though they already sort of knew, but Claus wanted to say it right.
Ness had already called him, telling Claus to try to make it not too awkward when Ninten would ask him to go somewhere today. Claus had asked him where they were going, and Ness hung up after.
Rude.
"I just don't get it." Lucas rubbed his forehead, "Semantics aside... you guys already know you like each other! Why can't you just start going out already, or whatever it is you guys want to do?"
"Lucas, Lucas, Lucas," Claus began, shaking his head as if this was common knowledge, "you can't just do that. It has to be perfect!"
That's exactly the same thing Ninten was telling Ness, too. "It needs to be perfect, or else it's going to feel like it won't count, yannow?"
"What? Don't 'yannow' me, Ninten. Ugh, you guys are hopeless. Look, just go to November and tell him, kiss him, do whatever you have to to express you stupid love for him. This is getting stupid."
"This isn't stupid." Ninten crossed his arms, "It's, like, the same thing you and Paula did. I mean, didn't Paula almost literally confess to you after you guys finished your adventure?"
"No.. she said she had something to tell me next time we met."
Ninten rolled his eyes, flopping back down onto the couch, "I just want to make it perfect. I just want to make sure it is perfect. This is the first time ever that this has happened, you know? I just..."
"Yeah, I know, you want it to be perfect!" Ness groaned, slapping his hand to his head, "That's what you've been saying for the past few days, Ninten. If you want it to be perfect so bad, why haven't you been doing anything?!"
Ninten turned to the side, lowering his hat over his head.
His friend walked over, leaning to peer over him.
"I'm nervous."
Ness groaned, shaking Ninten sporadically and wildly, "Get out of my house! You're just being a lazy bum!"
"Ness! Be nice to the guest." scolded Tracy from half across the room. She was playing with King gently, as he had gotten quite old over the years. King looked over at Ness and Ninten and cocked his head, and Ness heard his thoughts.
(Something is wrong with the guest? Leave me out of it!)
"See, Ninten? Even King wants nothing to do with you."
Ninten sighed, sitting upright, "If even your dog thinks this is dumb, maybe you're right. Okay, that's the last straw, I'll do it. I promise!"
He folded his arms, shaking his head, "It took my pet dog to getting you to make your mind to confessing to you 'one true love'? Jeez, Ninten. You're hopeless..."
Claus was doing stretches on the front yard while Lucas watched him. Flint was tending to some of the crops nearby, wondering what in the sam blue his son was doing. "Is this necessary, Claus? Are you going to.. jog to May to meet Ninten?" asked Lucas.
"Well, no, that's way too much work, but I still want to be on my best performance!"
Lucas frowned, "I think you're putting way too much thought into this, Claus. It's a confession, not a marathon. Do you want to see what dad thinks of this whole ordeal?"
