Evan's POV

Waeland and I headed to my house after deciding on checking up on my dad and catching up on our homework together since we have half of our classes together. I wanted to walk home, but since Waeland took his car, he made me ride with him and he wasn't going to walk and leave his car at school.

I told Waeland to wait in the car for a moment while I checked in on my dad before I let him in. I definitely didn't want Waeland to see my dad a drunken mess sprawled out on the floor or wobbling around, unable to stay steady on his own two feet.

Surprisingly, no sign of liquor or drinking was in sight as I stepped into the house. I scanned the house to see my dad straddling Jacob on the couch with Jake's hands cupping my dad's cheeks as he leaned forward and placed a small kiss on his lips. The sight made me drop my backpack to the floor with a loud thump, which caused both of their heads to snap towards me.

I was shocked, I never ever would have expected this. They've been best friends ever since I was little, I thought of Jacob as my Uncle, and here he is, kissing my dad on the couch.

"Hey, Evan, how was school?" My dad asked as if nothing just happened. So I assumed I should do the same... For now anyways.

"Alright," I said slowly as I texted Waeland, telling him it was okay for him to come in now. "How was your day, Dad?" I ask, looking around the place again, checking every table and seat for any beer or alcohol bottles. Only to see none in sight.

"One of the best days I've had in a while," He said, getting up from Jacob's lap with a smile plastered across his face. Which made me smile in turn, I'm happy that my dad had a good day for once without touching any alcohol. At least from what I can conclude anyways.

"That's great," I said as Waeland entered the house and stood by my side.

"Hey, Paul," Waeland greeted with a smile and nodded towards Jake. "You, too, Jacob."

"Nice to see you again Waeland," My dad started. "I didn't think you'd come back after Jacob scaring you two last time." He chuckled the last part and I rolled my eyes while Waeland just laughed.

"No, he didn't scare me. But I am a little embarrassed that we got caught." Waeland admitted.

Wow, he's not even embarrassed that we did it in the house in the first place? He's so cocky.

"Well, I guess don't get caught next time," Jake challenged with a small smirk.

"As long as everyone is alright," I said as I grabbed Waeland's arm. "We're going to study now, right Waeland?" I asked, not really wanting to stay any longer. I'm still a little weirded out about my dad and his best friend kissing, not because it's bad or anything, just a little odd. But who am I to judge my dad and what he does? He never judges me for my decisions. I need a little bit of time to process whatever... That was. I also need to add that to the things I need to talk about with my dad, other than my mom's wedding. As much as I don't want to talk about that with him, I really need to.

Plus, now seems like a good time with him seeming to be in a better mood and all. Even though I definitely don't want to ruin it.

"Right, see you guys later," Waeland waved to my dad and Jacob as I dragged him upstairs. This is actually kind of funny. Before, I was running away from him up the stairs, and now I'm dragging him up the stairs with me. Things really do change I guess. "What are we doing first?"

"World History, let's start from fourth period and work our way to last," I suggest and Waeland nods his head.

"Wait, we're seriously studying?" He asks. Well, that was a stupid question. That is what we agreed on, right?

"Yeah, what did you think we were going to be doing?" I question, looking at him with one of my eyebrows raised in curiosity.

"I don't know," Waeland said with a shrug. "Just not homework."

"You're a moron, Waeland," I said while shaking my head at him.

"I know," He said while he patted my head as I sat down at my desk.

"Don't touch my hair," I say, swatting his hand away playfully. He chuckled and sat on my bed.

"Oh, so now you say something about your hair," Waeland said and I nodded at him as I opened my laptop.

~~

Waeland and I sat in comfortable silence as I stayed seated in his lap as we continued to read a book together, him a few seconds behind me.

Once we finished all of our homework, I wanted to read, Waeland said he wouldn't read with me unless I sat on his lap and read with him. In the end, I gave in, letting him get his way. But I have to admit, it is quite comfortable.

He's like a squishier and warmer version of my desk chair. No, he is a squishier and warmer version of my chair. I like it.

Waeland yawned and I turned my head towards him, "Are you getting bored?"

"Yeah, I'm not used to this much silence," He said. Oh, I guess I was the only one comfortable with the silence then.

"Okay, do you want to talk about something then?" I ask, bookmarking the book and placing it down on the desk before turning around to face him.

"Yeah, actually, I've been meaning to tell you this for a while but it never really came across my mind again," Waeland said.

"Alright, go for it," I encouraged him.

"Remember when Garret interrupted us on the porch at the lake house? Well, after you left, he told me that if I didn't give you to him, then he'd tell my dad what happened. Obviously, I told him, no, but he really did end up telling him." He said and I really hold back a laugh. The only thing that stopped me was his last sentence. I know that his dad and he aren't on the best of terms and it probably pissed him off that he was told his son was doing that with his soon to be step-brother.

"Who does Garret think he is? Blackmailing you like that. Also, it's not you could give me to him anyway. One, I hate his ass. Two, it's not like I'm just some piece of property that can be handed off to someone. I'd kill someone before that happened." I said seriously and Waeland chuckled.

"I know. I don't think he learned his lesson from you kicking his ass before. Or maybe you just turned him on beating him up like that," He said as he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively and I rolled my eyes.

"Shut up," I told him with a small smile and he smiled back brightly at me.

"Nah, not unless you make me. Oh, since I told you that, why don't you tell me something?" Waeland asks.

"What are we? Gossip girls now?" I shake my head at him and he laughs.

"Of course not, we're men." Waeland commented back with a smirk playing across his lips.

Wow... I have no words for him. None at all.

"Oh, why don't you tell me about how you and Samantha decided to do that date thing," He said.

"Well, Samantha told me we really didn't seem too much like a couple so we should do something like go on a date. I questioned her first, but she convinced me to it. I didn't really know what to do at first since I didn't know what you liked, so Samantha was all weird saying stuff like, 'Oh my gosh! I can so give you all the deets you need to know about Waeland'", I say, mimicking Samantha the best I can and Waeland bursted out on laughter.

"Yeah, that definitely sounds like Samantha," He said while still laughing. I nodded in agreement, she did talk and act like that. "You know, you can be really funny, Evan. At least for how serious you act. Or maybe it's because you say it so seriously?"

"I'm not funny," I say, glaring at him. I am no clown like him.

"Oh yes you are," He says as he grabs my sides and starts tickling me.

"No, not again!" I yell, laughing.
