Just as Derek was about to take a step into the runic circle around the Nemeton, Ashley appeared and entered instead. The moment she did, a barrier went up around the Nemeton preventing anyone else from entering.

In the woods across, Peter stood at the edge of the shadows watching everything unfold.

Ashley, still standing on the altar, gazed melancholily at Derek. She was trying to memorize every feature on his handsome face hoping she won't forget it and to remind herself of why she was doing this in the first place.

Peter's heart ached as he watched the woman he loved gaze longingly at his nephew.

At last, Deaton finished the spell. A bright light flashed, and a portal appeared in thin air. It was time.

Peter gripped the tree beside him, trying to hold himself back. Anger caused him to shift partially, and it was taking everything in him not to go towards Deaton and rip him apart.

Ashley gave Derek a smile and whispered under her breath knowing Derek could hear it: "Goodbye Derek." I love you. She said the last line in her mind but they both felt what she was saying. Then she stepped into the portal as the willing sacrifice.

Peter's grip tightened as he restrained himself from running towards Ashley.

"NOOOOO!" Derek howled in anguish. "ASHLEEEEYY!"

Lightning hit the Nemeton and the girl disappeared as mysteriously as she had appeared.

"Do you know what wolfsbane is?" Peter asked the curious looking Ashley.

"Isn't it a poisonous plant?" She answered as she eyed the flower in his hands.

"It is poisonous yes, but it also has medicinal properties in the right situation." He explained as he tore the flower from the stem and placed it in her ear.

You're my wolfsbane. Peter thought to himself. Mine and Derek's whether he realizes it or not.

She smiled at his gesture. A bright and beautiful smile.

You're the bane of my existence. His heart ached as he glanced at the woman he loved. And my saving grace.

Peter recalled the memory as he watched from a distance. He allowed himself one tear to roll down his cheeks before he rubbed it off with the back of his hand. Then he turned his back to them and left, his face stone-cold. He knew if he saw Derek or any of them again who took part in this ritual that took Ashley away, he might just tear them to shred regardless of whether Ashley had loved them or not.
