Malcolm is staying for dinner once more tonight. This time, however, Greta has finally chosen to be a good help and prepare dinner for everyone with him. This gave Malcolm a chance to speak with Greta about something he recently found out about, as they both lean against the kitchen counters: each with their task. Greta is in charge of cutting the vegetables, while Malcolm preps the stove to start the cooking.
Greta took a quick glimpse around them, feeling comfortable knowing that Evelyn was upstairs with Brahms claiming that she would take the music lesson with him. The sound of piano keys being played from above filled the whole mansion, Evelyn was diffidently talented in this. "Hey, Greta?"
"Hm?" was the only reply from the female as she was focused on rereading the receipt, wanting to make a great dinner to leave an impression. "You know how, last time you asked me about Evelyn-" This sentence made Greta snap her neck towards Malcolm, that simple action caused the male to freeze in shock and worry at seeing her expression. Greta was reminded about the will left behind by the Heelshire.
"W-What about her?" / "Well I was doing my normal duty, delivering groceries at the pub and- I swear I didn't mean to eavesdrop but..." Malcolm took a deep gulp, nervously looking around them, afraid that Evelyn might show up just as he was talking about her: but hearing the piano in the background gave him a slight reassurance to it.
"People in town saw her a few days back and words just started flying everywhere about her." hoping to distract himself, Malcolm started oiling the pan before him, taking the vegetable cut up into it to fry, attempting to multitask but Greta had held him back. Putting the stove out, Greta pulled Malcolm to get his full attention, "What is everyone saying?" Greta mustered out so softly and quietly, that it's like she knew she was taking a challenge for wanting to know more here.
"Look, this is wrong I should bring this up-" / "MALCOLM!" Greta hissed at him but the male tried to reason with her, saying how he heard from a pub. Where drunk people were, nothing good or true came out of drunk people. But Greta insisted, glaring at him to answer her.
Letting out a defeated sigh, "P-People are scared of her," leaning his back against the counter as he gave up, his voice low forcing Greta to open her ears more if she wanted to hear everything. "She was adopted by the Houston's a great friend with the Heelshire. The Houston have been trying to have a baby for years, but nothing worked so they decided to adopt a child."
Greta came closer to him, their shoulder touching as they both stared in front of them at the door, just in case Evelyn ever showed up unexpectedly, "Mr. Houston just fell in love with Evelyn, she was quiet yet talented and somehow was able to pass every test he gave her. They took her in, raise her as their own. Look from here, I think the story's getting a little crazy." Malcolm warns turning to Greta for a quick eye contact before breaking it.
"But, you're here telling me." Greta said, "There's a part of you that believes this."
Malcolm didn't answer, he shook his head as if disappointed in himself but continued so, "When Evelyn was introduced to the Heelshire, they didn't like her. Something about her scared them, and they weren't the only one, turns out Mrs. Houston didn't like Evelyn either, she kept an act for her husband." Frowning his head to remember the words from the townspeople, "Brahms imminently like Evelyn, obsessive even is what people say. He did everything she asked, obey everything she needed and never ever left her side when she's in town."
"What's so bad about that?" Greta asked, but the moment she did: she saw how Malcolm's eyes went darker. "She had once asked him 'If you like me, bring me a dead cat,' and as she asked. He did, but her request started to become crueler, asking him to hurt others, or even himself. And Brahms did."
Greta couldn't imagine Evelyn she knew doing those things, the woman was so sweet, kind,d and patient with her. It's hard to believe but a part of her told her, that everything she ever knew was a lie. The real Evelyn has yet to be shown.
"Mrs. Heelshire requested Evelyn far from her child like a good mother. Everyone feared her, and Mr. Houston didn't like that. To him, she was just a child, being playful and ridiculous and it was Brahms who's weird to agree to such things. So the Heelshire and Houston started distancing their children."
"Is there more?" Greta whispered, looking down to get a glimpse of Malcolm's face. The man let out a deep breath before nodding his head, "A miracle happened, Mrs. Houston was able to bear a child. A true child. This caused Mr. Houston's attention to split between his true heir and Evelyn."

"What's this Daddy?" young Evelyn spoke, she stood in front of both her parents holding onto a picture in black and white. It was her, she was staring at a confusing image, and she could make out nothing from it. Mr. Houston giggles, his smile so bright and big as he leans over to place his face onto his wife's stomach who sits beside him.
Evelyn watched intently how her father didn't answer her question, instead was whispering things into her mother's stomach. It was an odd sight, but what was more important to Evelyn at that time was that someone who once did everything for her, protected her, and cared for her wasn't giving her those love eyes anymore. Instead towards her mother's stomach.
Talking about the mother. Evelyn looks up silently at Mrs. Houston who unlike her husband stares directly into Evelyn's eyes. They have always been tension between the two, they simply never liked each other. With an emotionless face at first, "I'm having a baby," Mrs. Houston's face rose in victory as a smirk spread her face: enjoying it, in contrast to Evelyn's grew disgusted.

"So, she was jealous of an unborn child?" Greta summarized the whole plot but Malcolm shook his head, saying there was more to the story.
"Mr. Houston started to slowly forget about Evelyn. He was giving his attention to his wife and unborn child." They both froze a second when the sudden stop of piano playing, both looking up afraid they were caught. Neither chose to breathe instead held it, all until the piano played once more.
"It was Brahms's birthday, the day everything just become worse. It was also the last time the Houston and Heelshire were seen together. People who came to that party remembered how suspiciously close Brahms and Evelyn was. They hid in the treehouse, barely interacted with others but themselves. Like whispering a plan."
Greta remembers the photos. It was that day.
"The day after that, everything was supposed to be normal. Mr. Houston didn't expect anything. Yet, when he came home, he was a witness to a crime he never reported."
