Chapter 10:
Cassandra's POVThe next day my alarm clock wakes me up - my dad had set it for me the night before. I look around the room that is before me and sigh. The pastel blue bed spread matches the floor length curtains. There is a Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars movie poster hanging in my room. I need to rewatch those movies, hopefully I still enjoy them.
I swing my legs off the bed and turn off the alarm clock. I open the closet door and stare into my closet. I decide on a flower themed tank top, a pair of light blue jeans, and white flip flops. I head down the staircase, marveling at the sight as I walk. In the kitchen I have a bowl of Cheerios before grabbing a water for my bookbag.
I need to brush my teeth.
But where's my bathroom...
I glance at the clock and see I have a minute until Rita comes to pick me up - as my dad informed me last night. Ugh.
I head up the stairs and open the nearest door. It's the spare bedroom. The next door is the guest bedroom. I go across the hall and open my door by mistake.
My phone buzzes.Rita, 7:03 am: Here
Shit.
With a frustrated sigh I close my door and rush down the stairs. I grab my bookbag, which I had left in the kitchen, and head out the door to find Rita waiting in her car. When I get to school Rita leads me to the guidance office so I can talk to them and get my schedule again. Rita heads off to class leaving me alone at the guidance office's door. I knock on the door before the person behind me tells me that I can just walk in. I turn around a see a good looking guy with dark brown hair and stunning blue eyes.
"T-t-thanks." I stutter out.
"No problem, Cass, see you around." He says smiling, turning around to walk away. I hesitate for a moment, wondering how I know him.
"Wait!" I call after him but he's already turned the corner and is out of sight.
I turn back to the door and open it. I politely walk in and silently shut the door. I see a woman in old lady glasses typing on her computer, ignoring me. I clear my throat. She continues to type.
"Ahem." I say a little louder. She looks up at me still typing. She squints her eyes and looks me over.
"Can I help you, young lady?" She says, and stops typing.
"Umm. Yes, please. I'm here to see my guidance counselor."
"Who's your guidance counselor?" She says looking back at her computer screen.
"Oh! Umm..."
"Okay. Okay." She says with a sigh. "Name please. Last name first. First name last." She says glancing back at me with attitude.
Oh. Gosh. What's my last name.
"Uhh... T...Town...Townsmen." I say with uncertainty. "Oh! Townsman. Haha, sorry." I say quickly. "Townman, Cass. Err, Cassandra." I say with a nervous smile. She types something in her computer.
"You're guidance counselor is Dr. Zchuberg. She's in the second office to the left." She says pointing down the hallway. I say thank you and head down to Dr. Zchuberg. When I get to her office the door is open and she sees me and beckons me in. Her brunette hair is in a ponytail and her eyes are a sparkly green.
"Good morning! How can I help you?" She says with a bright smile.
"I'm Cassandra. Townman. I, uhh, I'm here to see you because I was in an accident -"
"Oh! Yes! Of course! Cassandra! Yes, yes. Your father called and then your doctor called and they filled me in on everything! Okay so I'm assuming you need a schedule and a school directory so let me just print that out!" She says with bright eyes and a pretty smile. She starts typing things into her computer and soon her printer starts to buzz. Two items come out of the printer. She picks them up and hands them to me.
"Okay, Cassandra, here you are! All of your teachers are informed about the accident and the circumstances. They'll understand if you are late to class or don't understand something. However, we expect that you try to get to class on time nonetheless. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask! Don't be shy, I don't bite. Haha. Oh! By the way, Cassandra, today is an A day." She's very eager. But in a nice way, I think. I smile and nod at her, taking the papers. I tell her if I need help I'll come straight to her, which seems to please her enough. She tells me first block started 15 minutes ago so she writes me a pass. I thank her and head off into the big world of high school. Again. After I step out of the guidance counselor office I glance at my schedule.
