Chapter 6:

Cassandra's POV:

On the way to the pizza parlor, my mom says it is called Pizza Palace, everyone seems too nervous to talk. When we pull into the parking lot, my mom is uneasy getting out of the car. As we walk into Pizza Parlor, the bell rings and a pretty girl with bright blue eyes and dark brown hair that have purple dyed ends calls out to us.

"Hey Cassandra, babe. Hey Mr. and Mrs. Townsman... And hey, Ryan?" The girl says Ryan's name with a puzzled look. I glance at her and smile, not knowing who she is.

"Oh," she says disappointed, with a pained smile she adds, "you don't remember me do you? Yeah, your dad told me about the accident... and the memory issue."

"I'm sorry," is the only thing I can think of to say.

"No, it's okay, it's not your fault. Well, this is weird but I'm Rita. Rita Pipher, official best friend since I pushed you off the swings when you were in first grade and I was in second."

I laugh with uncertainty and she smiles reminiscing.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Rita Pipher, again."

"So, do you want the usual, Mr. and Mrs. Townsman?" she says addressing my parents.

"Yes please, dear." My mother says with an official smile.

Ryan butts into the conversation and says, "Rita, I'll have a pepperoni and mushroom pizza with extra garlic and a small lemonade."

"You got it, and what about you Cass?"

"Umm, I'll take my usual, I guess...?" I saw with a bit of a laugh. She rings up our order and Ryan hands my parents a $10 to pay for his meal yet they refuse his money and pay for him instead. We head for a booth near the back and I scoot in across from my mother while Ryan sits on the outside seat. We sit for a minute or two in silence until my father speaks up.

"So, Ryan, I didn't know you and Cassandra were together? Granted I don't know everything in my little girl's life but I usually know a few things." I turn to Ryan wondering about our relationship, I make a mental note to talk to him about it more later.

"Well, sir, we've been dating for only two weeks. We haven't had a chance to go on an actual date yet though because I've been busy. You know, it's already April and finals are just around the corner, it's all so much, but I plan on taking her on an actual date soon enough."

He better!

My father gives Ryan a puzzled but satisfied enough nod. Before either can get another word out Rita comes humming over to our table with our food while another water brings drinks. Rita eyes Ryan and asks to speak to him in private. I think nothing of it and stare at the entrée that lays before me, it appears to be pepperoni pizza with a shit ton of extra cheese. Carefully I take an unsteady bite of the pizza. It's actually pretty good but as soon as it touches my mouth I feel the steam settle on my palette. With a blazing hot swallow I quickly grab my drink. I gulp down a few sips before I realize that its mint lemonade.

Wow. I have the weirdest taste!

My parents politely laugh at me and I notice my mom doesn't look as sad. After a few moments Ryan comes back to the table, looking a little pale.

"What was that all about?" I ask.

"What - oh, that was nothing."

I eye him, not believing him.

"It's a secret, a good one, I promise," he says with a sexy wink.
