one gloomy afternoon, darkened clouds casting their depressing shadows onto the ground below. aziraphale had finished locking up the bookshop when he noticed the angry storm brewing just above him. the grumbling of thunder shook the overcast with a bright blue bolt of electricity.

the walk from the shop to his apartment complex wasn't far at all, but getting soaked was not on his agenda. so when the first rain droplet plopped on the very tip of his nose his gaze shifted to the heaven of vapor that was threatening to burst at any given moment. the angel sped down the sidewalk, hoping by some miracle to get home unsoaked.

one drop turned into two, and two into three... and so on. he treaded for as long as the clouds kept the downpour at bay. but when it came down to it, he remained at a stalemate with the angered weather. standing beneath an awning for the foreseeable future, he let out a defeated sigh as the water collected inches away from his feet.

turning the light concrete sidewalk into dark grey splotches. soon enough the rain was relentlessly pounding the ground into submission. his tan trench coat was now damp with the little water that did manage to sneak its way into the fabric.

he noticed a bench behind him and didn't see the harm in taking a seat till the rain let up. he jumped a bit at the realization that someone was seeking shelter under the awning. newspaper in hand, blocking the view of his face. so there they were, waiting out the rain together.

aziraphale rested his hands in his lap, wondering how long this shower would last when the sound of a paper crinkling caught his attention. only then was he able to see the auburn haired person behind the paper.

"crowley? what in heaven are you doing here?" he asked, surprised to see the guy he had liked for centuries sitting beside him.  "just waiting for the rain to calm down, like you." he answered, placing the neatly folded newspaper down on the empty spot next to him.

aziraphale cleared the growing knot in his throat before straightening his posture. "so crowley uhm... what brings you to this part of london." he asked, watching as the black tinted sunglasses were lifted from the demons piercing yellow eyes that seemed to be staring right through his very soul.

that alone was enough to make aziraphale's once confident exterior turn into mush. the angel's eyes bounced from the shimmering golden he loved so much, to the rain coated streets. unable to keep eye contact for longer than a second, to keep his racing heart from exploding inside his chest.

"work, hell has me awfully busy. it's exhausting." he groaned, tossing his head back to rest against the back of the top half of the old rickety bench. only then, when the serpent eyes weren't tailing his every move like a hawk, he was able to glance at crowley without the fear of his heart erupting from his rib cage.

from his perfect facial structure down his chiseled jawline, then to the pale collarbone peaking its way from the jet black fabric. well almost all pale, the discoloration that snuck out from the collar caught aziraphale's undevoted attention.

the bright mark almost looked like lush red lipstick. though he didn't show it, jealousy clouded the angel's mind like a sudden summer storm; rolling in without a hint of warning. he cleared his throat, "seeing anyone lately?"

that was enough to get an eyebrow raised. and just like that he was back to crumbling beneath the powerful gaze of his adored yellow eyes. aziraphale began cursing himself, his internal thoughts shouting 'why in heaven's name would you ask him that you idiot.'

though his subconscious was batting at him, he was genuinely curious. it wasn't weird for a friend to ask a friend about relationships now was it?

"why do you ask?" crowley asked with a tint of confusion and curiosity lacing his words. aziraphale wasn't prepared for this. "i just uhm- you have a little thing there... on your neck." he stumbled over his words like a clumsy schoolgirl. crowley seemed a bit perplexed, feeling that part of his neck the crimson kiss stain was placed.

"that? nah that's just a pesky bug bite." he answered. "oh i see... neverminded then..." the tension that arose afterward was nothing less than uncomfortable. with nowhere else to go, they were forced to wait out this awkward atmosphere.

"...the answer is no by the way."

aziraphale was too caught up in his own roaring thoughts to hear what crowley was talking about. "i'm sorry?" crowley took a breath before repeating, "no, i haven't 'seen' anyone in a few centuries. not since we--"

he stopped himself before much more could be said. they had both agreed not to talk about that, not again, not since the breakup. "you haven't been with anyone since we dated? but that was in the renaissance era." aziraphale perked up.

though it was true he never got over crowley, he figured since he was a demon he would've moved on quickly. now that he thought about it, the topic of relationships never again came up since they both agreed to 'just be friends.' "yeah.. i never quite got over that one."

something that happened over seven centuries ago, and they both were unable to get past it. they both still had the same feelings they shared back then. the rain filled the silence, with the comforting pitter patter of droplets tapping against the awning.

the awkward atmosphere had become just a little less awkward. aziraphale fidgeted with his fingers, trying to piece together the puzzle of words spiraling around in his head.

"wha—what if we tried again.. y'know like a fresh start," he asked with a nervous look on his face. the fear of rejection led his gaze out to the flooded streets, not wanting to see the expression crowley wore. was he mad? was he disappointed aziraphale still liked him?

they had been doing this platonic thing for the last hundred plus years. was it weird for him to have this undying love for his best friend?

"are you asking me out right now angel? i must say i'm flattered." crowley scoffed in his usual smug tone. "well... yeah, i guess i never stopped.. liking you either." aziraphale admitted. crowley took a moment before speaking.

"the truth is, i actually came to see you. it wasn't for some crappy job.. i just—wanted to see you." aziraphale perked his head up. finally gaining the courage to look in the demon's direction, only for him to avoid eye contact with the angel.

his serpent eyes glanced in the opposite direction while his cheeks dusted a light rose coloration. he was blushing. the demon who was supposed to be evil and unforgiving was blushing.

for the first time, since the universe was created aziraphale had made crowley flustered. his heart skipped a beat at the priceless sight in front of him. he couldn't help himself. he leaned forwards, not giving crowley time to object he placed his lips on his.

crowley hesitated to kiss back, taking in the surreality of their situation before inevitably melting into the sweet warm sensation. the kiss lasted longer than intended, and by the time the couple stopped their love session, the rain had been whisked away.

leaving the sun to peak through the cracks in the clouds, and a colorful ray of light cast through the sky to project a bright vibrant rainbow.
