I have told myself I don’t want to fall in love again. To me, it’s just a waste of time. Love is an unending cycle. You get to know each other, talk, get attached and fall in love and then at the end they break up. Probably because someone get tired or someone fell out of love. That’s how love in this generation function and I can’t caught up with it as I prefer being alone and enjoy my own company.

I sat there in my favorite coffee shop. I placed my laptop to study and do all my activities in school. I was busy scanning some files when someone cleared their throat in front of me. I slowly looked up and saw a handsome but unfamiliar man. He was wearing a black collared shirt.

He smiled at me to which I raised my eyebrow in return. He chuckled a little and spoke.

“May I sit, pretty lady?” My face scrunched a bit hearing his corny eanderment. I felt shivers run down my spine. I’ve never been a fan of endearments and I hate it when people call me by that.

“Go on.” I replied and went back to doing my tasks.

He sat in front of me and started talking but I didn’t mind him since I’m busy and I don’t really like talking to strangers. I like peace more than anyone.

When he noticed I wasn’t listening to him, he stand up and leave. Good to know. He shouldn’t be meddling with other people’s personal space and life.

Days went by like that. I did my tasks alone like how I usually do. Sometimes when my favorite coffee shop is already full of customers, I went around to find a perfect spot for me and this garden became my new safe place.

“Funny meeting you here. I didn’t thought I’ll see you again.” I heard those familiar voice again. He has this thick accent and baritone voice that made me look up only to find the guy I met at the coffee shop.

He sat beside me without asking for permission like how he did before. I raised my eyebrows again at him when he suddenly looked at me with his sad eyes. He smiled a little and looked back at the front. He heaved a deep sigh before talking.

“I’m sorry. I’m bothering you too much, aye?” He asked but I didn’t replied. I continued watching him when I noticed how his hands shake and a lone tear escape from his eyes.

“I miss you.” He suddenly said out of nowhere and started crying.

I was left there frozen in place, not knowing what to do. This is so awkward to me as I don’t know how to comfort someone and I am beyond shocked at the words he had said earlier.

I don’t know this man.

“Are you cold? I remember you don’t like cold places and you always told me to bring jacket so I can just hug you whenever you feel cold.” He wiped the tears from his eyes and smiled once again.

“You still like going to your favorite places, huh? Did you remember those days where we always eat our lunch here? You always left crumbs on your cheeks.” He chuckled.

“You eat like a baby. My baby.”

He then stretched his leg and lie his back on the ground. The look in his eyes looked so lost, I can see vividly from my perspective that he looked so tired and sad.

“I miss you, Veronica. I just wished that you didn’t g-gave up and wait for m-me.” His voiced cracked as he started crying again.

“It’s really tiring battling with that cancer, right? I wish you well wherever you are now. You did a great job holding out. Always know that it’s you and you only. You’re the only woman my heart will recognize. The woman I’ll forever cherish and love even if you’re already gone. I love you so much, Veronica. I know someday, we’ll be together soon.”

It was only then I realized I was crying really hard when he stopped talking.

It’s already been months since I passed away because of cancer.
