━━━━━━━ To know Cassie you had to know three things; one, she hated messy buns, you wouldn't catch her with one of those, two, she was scared of death, that was one of her biggest fears, dying, and third, she absolutely adored clothes specially with the colour pink.
With those three things you could pretty much figure her out, she wasn't particularly complicated, at surface level she was just another average girl.
They spent two days in the Armtrak train, heading west through hills, over rivers, past amber waves of grain.
Cassie wondered about her mother, would she care if she knew she was crossing the country looking to go to hell? Probably not, her mother wouldn't care much.
They all tried to keep a low profile, specially Percy since his name and picture were splashed over the front pages of several East Coast newspapers.
The news showed a photo taken by a tourist as Percy got off the bus. He had a wild look in his eyes. His sword was a metallic blur in his hands. It might've been a broom or a lacrosse stick.
His step father was offering a cash reward, and the papers informed he was travelling with three accomplices (three very pretty accomplices).
Cassie felt a bit offended she hadn't been mentioned. Like really, she had blown up the bus too!
The rest of the day Cass spent alternately pacing the length of the train (because she had a really hard time sitting still) or looking out the windows, or talking to anyone she could find, or playing train games.
Once, she and Percy had spotted a family of centaurs galloping across a wheat field, bows at the ready, as they hunted lunch. The little boy centaur, caught her eye and waved.
Their reward money for returning Gladiola the poodle had only been enough to purchase tickets as far as Denver and a bag of skittles.
Toward the end of their second day on the train, June 13, eight days before the summer solstice, they passed through some golden hills and over the Mississippi River into St. Louis. Annabeth craned her neck to see the Gateway Arch.
"Someday, I'm going to see it in person. I'm going to build the greatest monument to the gods, ever. Something that'll last a thousand years." The blonde shared.
Percy laughed. "You? An architect?"
Cassie jumped to defend the blonde. "Annie will make a great architect.
Her cheeks flushed. "Thanks Cassie, and yeah, an architect. Athena expects her children to create things, not just tear them down, like a certain god of earthquakes I could mention."
There it was, the side comments.
Cassie huffed, knowning another fight was coming, she shared a look with Grover. "Couldn't you two get along, please? I'm not saying to be best friends, just be civil."
