IF YOU COULD survive vindictive Valley Girls, you could survive monsters. Ask Cassie, she'd tell you, since she had to deal with both.
It wasn't like they were all bad, no, that would be generalising- most of them were nice.
But some of them were actual monsters. Exhibit A, empousa by the name of Stephanie, that attacked Cassie in calculus, (Cassie was slightly grateful for that one, the class was really boring).
It was sucking the life out of the girl; to be constantly looking behind her back, being wary of students, was that teacher genuinely being nice or was he a monster in disguise?
For that reason Cassie dropped school at fourteen and did so very happily. She particularly didn't care for her education (or nobody else cared enough), besides- she knew how to read and write.
Instead she spent a month (until February) practicing with Kairos, IM'ing people at camp, occasional shoplifting.
No, don't put that face, shoplifting isn't that bad. Not when it was out of necessity, or simply asking with a pretty please for a cute skirt she wanted.
After February, Cassie spent the year in a blur of faces, people, sounds, smells, and monsters.
Every city was different, no state was quite like the other. Cassie liked that, it gave her the ability to be whoever she wanted or say whatever she wanted without any risk.
Perhaps it wasn't the best thing for a teenage girl, for she was fourteen after all. But after an ... incident in Los Angeles she was forced to leave. (Leaving seemed like a recurring pattern for Cassie).
Not everything was bad and horrible, she learnt how to put a Texan accent, (a boy by the name of Leo taught her).
She had always been quite cozy in her security net, things were simple (as they could be for a half-blood), but the outside world was even more chaotic than she originally thought.
The plan was to go to camp, which she did so in the end, but she had to cross from one side of the country to another- she had done it that summer with her friends, it would be fine.
So that's what she did, sneaking into trucks, strolling around cities, running from monsters, stealing food, and monsters (honestly, didn't they have anything better to do?)
It was in patrol duty with Clarisse, when she bumped into Annabeth, all bloodied and messied.
The blonde hugged her best friend. "What the Hades are you doing here?"
"You know me, connecting with nature."
The blonde laughed. "No, really."
"What happened you your arm?" She swiftly changed the topic.
There was a deep cut on her friend's arm, who quickly reassured her she had taken nectar. "Monster, I was looking for you, actually."
Cassie smiled lazily. "Who isn't?" (Nobody really). The brunette quickly told Annabeth about the situation at camp.
The blonde was horrified. "Luke," her voice was full of hatred. "We should've expected..."
"We have to go and find Percy." Cassie swallowed the feeling in her gut when Annabeth mentioned Luke, she couldn't tell her (not yet anyways).
The blonde titled her head. "Let's go, I think people in New York finish school today."
"Thank Chiron's curlers ," Cassie's tone was ironic, "gods forbid he misses school."
- so originally cassie was going to join luke, she would take silena's place (so silena wouldn't die and live happily ever after with beckendorf 💞💞)
i ditched this plotline BUT i think i'm going to write it in kind of an au? idk 😭
- ALSO cassie now has character trauma to be able to give her many many flaws, yay!!
