Chapter 6: Heart Attack

Darcy's POV:

Olivia had heard me being nice to Abbey and told the other jocks. They told me if I wanted Abbey then I could forget about getting on the team no matter how good I was. I made a promise to my dad so I had to go along with it. It killed me to say that to Abbey. I just hope she would meet me at the park at 5 as I really care about her.

I arrived at the park at 4:55 and thought, 'good I'd rather get here early rather than late.' I waited almost an hour for her but she didn't show. I feel really bad now. I just wanted to make it up to her but she didn't give me the chance to.

When I got home, I changed into some running gear and went for a run. I was just so frustrated because I believe I have found a girl that my parents will approve of and I would be proud to show her off to everyone. I took my iPod with me and listened to the one song that always helps me. Heart Attack by Enrique Igelsias.

After a 30 minute run, I went home to finish my homework. I had it done by dinnertime. At dinner dad was wondering if on the weekend I would like some more footy practice. I agreed to keep him pleased. After dinner I tried to contact Abbey but she didn't reply to my Facebook messages. Olivia kept trying to flirt with me but I just ignored her and that was my plan for at school.

At 9pm I got worried about Abbey so I decided that I should go and check on her, so I snuck out.

I ran down the street as I found out she only lives down the end of the street. When I got there, no one answered the door but it was unlocked, so I thought I would walk inside to check everyone was ok.

I walked into what looked like her room and found her lying unconscious on her bathroom floor, bleeding from cuts on her arms with a blade lying next to her. I immediately rang an ambulance and just hoped they got here in time to help her. My crying had slowed down by the time the paramedics made it. I picked her up and placed her on the stretcher when the paramedics got there as they were females and couldn't pick her up. I rode in the ambulance with them.

After she was all patched up they said to me, "From blood loss, she is temporarily in a coma." I broke down right then and then in front of the doctor. "Is there a family member of hers I could ring?"

I said, "I don't know, I only just moved her and I don't know about her family situation. When I found her the house was empty." Just as the doctor left the room to look in the records for someone to call, my phone rang. I answered, "Hello?"

"DARCY, WHERE ARE YOU?" I heard my mum practically scream at me.

"I'm sorry for not telling you, I went to check up on a friend and found her on her bathroom floor in a pool of blood from cuts on her arm, so I rang an ambulance and went with her. I'm sorry for not calling you."

"Aww sweetie, it's ok. You can stay there for the night if her parents are fine with it. Also you can have a day off tomorrow if you would like. I'll talk to you tomorrow morning if you end up staying there."

"Thanks mum, cya tomorrow."

"Bye honey."

The doctor re-entered the room with a women who looked like she was crying. The doctor said, "This is Abbeys mum, Karen. Karen this is Darcy, he was the person who found Abbey." Karen came up and gave me a big hug and I hugged her back as she looked like she needed some comfort.

Karen said, "Thanks so much for helping her. If she died I don't know how I would cope. She was the only thing that helped me when her dad left me."

I said, "I'm sorry about your ex husband. Has she done this sort of thing before?"

Karen looked guilty and then replied, "I wouldn't know, since my ex husband left, I have been working more hours. I'm so sorry this happened to her. I feel really bad." She started crying again.

I said, "Don't blame yourself, I think it's my fault."

Karen said, "What happened? How is it your fault?"

I sighed, "At school today some jocks accused her of having a crush on my and threatened me that if I didn't reject her then I wouldn't get a spot on the football team. The truth is I did it but I love her. I've mucked up and I regret it so much. It hurts me to see her like this."

Karen yelled, "GET OUT RIGHT NOW! I DON'T WANT YOU ANYWAY NEAR MY DAUGHTER!"

I said, "Ok, just please tell her I'm sorry and if she would give me a chance to explain myself."

I walked off feeling hurt and lost. I loved her and I mucked everything up. I ran home, hopped into the shower and cried for the millionth time today. I thought if I don't go to school tomorrow then I will end up mopping around all day and feeling bad for what I did. I went to bed but I couldn't sleep because I was so worried about Abbey.
