***The Invitation***
Alex stared at the caller ID on his phone, a mixture of curiosity and intrigue swirling in his mind. The anticipation had been building since he'd seen Emily's name flash on the screen.
"Hello?" Alex answered, trying hard to control the excitement bubbling within him. His voice, however, came out smooth and controlled.
"Mr Carrington, it's Emily," she finally said, and her voice sent a thrill down his spine. There was something about her, something he couldn't quite grasp, but he wanted to know more.
"Please, call me Alex," he found himself saying, surprising himself with his own familiarity. He hardly knew her, yet he felt a connection.
This could be the beginning of something special, he mused, his mind already envisioning their meeting. "See you at 10?"
"It's a date," she answered before realising her choice of words. "I mean, a meeting. See you then."
His heart skipped a beat at her choice of words, though he tried to keep his voice steady. A date? Or is it just a slip of the tongue?
"Until then, Emily," he said, his voice rich with something unspoken, something that left her intrigued and something that left him with a growing sense of anticipation.
***The Cafe***
Saturday arrived, and Alex found himself looking forward to his time with Emily. He dressed carefully and wanted to make a good impression, not as a successful businessman but as the person behind the image.
When he arrived at the café, Emily was already there, her eyes lighting up as she saw him. The way her eyes sparkled, the radiant curve of her lips as she smiled, and the gentle grace with which she tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear stunned him momentarily.
