Lady El, Lady El, La-
The sound of horses cut through Evel Wintors daydreaming. She sat up promptly upset.
She was visiting home and wanted to not be disturbed.
She woked up early and headed out with food packed and her carriage. With her driver of course.
Evel couldn't stand another day of her mother, Lady Victoria Wintors, nagging. Her father, Lord Yves Wintors kept his nose buried in his books. He was so used to it, he probably now just drowned her out.
Evel was a business woman much to the horrors of her mother and delight of her father.
Her mother has been throwing suitors her way for quite sometimes but none of them quite sticked. Stick around more to say when they found out about Evel.
Evel had several homes around the world and her mother knew just where she was, making Evel think she planted one of her peoples around her.
Evel was able to do all this thanks to her widowed grandmother. She missed Lady Elisabeth Wintors dearly. She raised her only child in the absence of a husband who cared only for money. Lord Wintors neglected his wife and child. He'd only married out of duty but Lady Wintors married for love which was never reciprocated sadly.
"Visiting home?"
Evel looked up startled. Aston Asbury stood looming over her.
So much for these costly men she paid to protect her. No forwarning of anyone approaching. Evel decided it was time for a chat later as this was not the first time.
"Asbury, what a surprise. I didn't know you were here!" Evel shot the three men a looked that could kill.
"I don't suppose you did, seem lost in something there. These three goons belong to you?"
Evel shot him a glare as she nodded. She and Asbury were not the best of friends. He was insufferable and a stuffy man. She grew up with him around as he was friends with Nathaniel but Evel was not a fan.
Asbury was taller and that was rare as Evel own looming height surpassed many men. His shock of reddish brown hair gleamed in the sunlight and his gray blue eyes looked over everything and missed nothing. It always disturbed Evel.
His features were almost too beautiful to be a man but he very much was as he was lean and muscular. He was always bruding. Narrowing his thick brows over those stormy eyes.
"Hmm, off to Mama's marry mart? Who's the lastest victim? Angelica? Surely not Elise, she's too young. Though mama might be ok with that but the rest of us are not."
Asbury raised a brow at Evel acquisition and ignored her.
Evel ignored the hand he offered and stood up herself. She was properly improperly dressed. She'd left out some parts of the absurdly over the top restricting style that seems to be the lastest of the ton.
"Hardly proper to be out here like this."
This time Evel ignored his comment and walked off. He soon followed with his long stride and kept at pace with her as she made her way out the fields. She wanted to head to the carriage and back before Asbury. Seems likely since he was currently stalking her.
"Looks like it'll rain later but fine weather so far."
Asbury grunted in response. The three men followed closely but at a distance. Evel was so annoyed she wish she could make them walk. She contained the urge. Barely.
"How's business? Nathaniel says you are quite the businessman."
Nathaniel should mind his own business, thought Evel.
Evel gave Asbury a short glance before answering.
"Want business advice from a business person?"
Asbury laughed and replied.
"Hardly."
Evel supressed her temper and bit her tongue to not retort smartly. He was probably trying to get a rise out her. He'll be disappointed cause she refuses to rise to bait.
"This is my stop here. Off you go."
Evel dismissed him as they reached her carriage.
Asbury shot her a parting look.
"I'll see you at the house."
Evel glared at his back. He had to have the last word. Insufferable man.
She got into the carriage and the three man as well. One rode in the front with the driver while the others rode inside with her.
Evel prompt the driver to swiftly head to the house.
