"No Attenborough today?" Stella asks her brother as the three walk to school.

"If they walk 16% slower, the Walker siblings may be able to skip first period as a whole." August says in a British accent.

"I'm in. Let's do it." Janie says.

"I know." Stella chuckles. "I can't handle having to explain to people again why they should feel sorry for us. Not when the last thing I want them to actually be is sorry. No one's gonna get it except the three of us. But... if you guys ever want to talk..."

"I don't." August says.

"I'll punch you." Janie says.

"No." Stella tells her.

"But, hey, on the bright side, uh, at least being invisible to the entire school will finally work to my advantage." August remarks.

"Stella, oh, my God! Tell us everything." A girl says.

"You poor thing. I can't believe you're back in school already." Another girl says.

"Augie, how are you?" Ruby walks over.

"August!" A blonde steps in front of Ruby. "You're so brave. Do you need anything?" Ruby walks away.

"You know my name?" August asks.

"Of course I do." The bell rings. "Maybe I'll find you after class." The three girls leave.

"Suddenly I'm brave." August says.

"And I'm sensing you're going to be suddenly egotistical." Janie remarks.

"Oh, come on, it's better than, "Oh, his mom died." Or "It's that quiet A/V guy we keep on referring to as "Arlo" for whatever reason.""

"Hey, not everybody calls you Arlo." Stella says.

"Look, our life has screwed us up so many times, all right? Why not take advantage of just one tragic thing?" August questions, going into school.

"Well, you high schoolers have fun." Janie says.

"No fights." Stella orders.

"No promises." Janie says.

Janie is at her locker and getting the correct books for her next class.

"The dude who got shot -- in front of her -- was an ex-con. She got shot, even her uncle got shot." Janie rolls her eyes at the words, letting out a sharp breath.

"Why is it always me?" She whispers to herself.

"No, for real." One of the girls laugh.

"I bet she's lying about the gunshot. Make it seem more dramatic." Another girl says.

Janie slams her locker shut and turns to them, keeping her math textbook in hand.

"Did you guys not learn how to fucking whisper by now?" Janie questions. "Seriously? I mean, really, a year later, and you still talk so fucking loudly."

"Oh, come on. Like you really got shot in the leg?" One of the girls laugh.

"Yeah, I did. And did you not learn anything from the last time you were a bitch?" Janie questions.

"Please." The girl laughs. "Like you'd be insane enough to do that shit again."

"Wanna bet?" Janie smirks before smacking the girl in the head with her math textbook. The girl cries out in pain, falling to the floor after Janie punches her.

The other girl attacks Janie, slamming her against the lockers. Janie headbutts her and yanks on her ponytail, kicking her to the ground.

"Girls, girls!" A teacher charges forward. "Principal's office! Now!"
