Meant For Me

Enid is positively buzzing in excitement. Not only is it finally time to start their preparations for the Poe Cup, she also received a note from Wednesday for the first time. It's a simple gesture, but it has Enid above the clouds with a high she can't describe. She can even forget the fact that Yoko knows something is up and is deciding to keep quiet about it for now.

Which is why she absolutely doesn't expect Wednesday to appear behind her at all.

Especially not when she's saying, "If Bianca Barclay wins again this year I will literally claw my eyes out."

"I would pay money to see that", an all too familiar voice reaches Enid's ears.

Unable to help the grin that shoots into existence across her face and the giddy feeling that comes to her because Wednesday is visiting her while she's doing her extracurricular activities like she's dreamt of so many times, Enid whips around and approaches Wednesday with a skip hop and a jump. "Howdy, roomie. I'm so glad you decided to stay." It's the truth, Enid never wanted Wednesday to leave anyway.

The way Wednesday barely even scowls harder at the greeting made Enid do an internal double take. In their stolen moments, Enid had learned to read Wednesday to a perfect T. Despite not being near each other for years, Wednesday had stubbornly refused to change, meaning Enid could still read her as well as the day they started dating. Something was wrong with Wednesday.

In fact, Enid was aware that Wednesday wouldn't seek her out if she didn't have to, because it put their secret at jeopardy. So the question was why Wednesday would risk such a thing. "So... why the change of heart?"

"I refuse to play the role of a pawn in someone else's corrupt game", Wednesday replied, arms crossed. It was too vague, even for Enid to debunk. She wasn't dumb, but she was no Sherlock Holmes. Heck, even Sherlock Holmes might not be able to get through Wednesday's twisted riddles.

"You mean Rowan?" Even as she asks, Enid knows it's not the entire answer.

"I witnessed his murder Enid." So did Enid, which is what baffled Enid more than anything.

Except, "It's just we all saw him this morning. Very much, like, not dead." But what did that have to do with Enid?

"I know. Which leads me to believe I've been losing my mind. It's not as fun as I anticipated." That's when it dawned on Enid. Wednesday only ever mentioned losing her mind when it came to the Addams family curse. This wasn't about Rowan at all, it was about Enid and the curse.

Wednesday wished it was just about the Addams family curse. She wished beyond all hope that it was simply her losing her mind. That would be fine, it would be a joyous occasion. Except it wasn't about that. It was what Wednesday had done herself that put both her and more importantly Enid at peril for falling for each other.

Which is why not that Wednesday has to make sure that whatever is going on with Rowan never touches a single hair on Enid, because if Enid were to get hurt like in her dreams, it would be 100% Wednesday's fault.

Right after she recovered from that wink Enid gave her, that is.

"ARGH!" Wednesday lets out, slamming her fists onto her desk as Thing shakes with held in laughter.

'You are so whipped for her', he signs teasingly, no doubt reveling in the chance to get back at Wednesday for threatening him to loyalty.

"I have not been whipped, although if Enid were in danger, I would take a thousand cuts from a whip for her", Wednesday replies with a scowl, as if that didn't prove his point further.
