Okay so what if Wednesday had conveniently forgotten to mention the page in the book that Rowan had left behind, and equally regretfully had forgotten to mention the symbol on the statue matching the page?
It was just for Enid's own good not to worry so much. She always accounted for Enid's wellbeing in her actions.
What Wednesday didn't account for was to be tied to a chair, vision robbed from her. It was definitely her type of party. Then footsteps sounded closer and closer, a heavy stench of paint accompanying it just like in her vision. Immediately Wednesday feels something thrum in her veins, defensive mode turning on as she gets ready to fight.
The sack was ripped off of her head to reveal a group of people in masks, one of them adjusting their voices to seem more intimidating. "Who dares breach our inner sanctum?" Just like that, Wednesday's hopes for a proper scuffle were dashed.
"You can take the mask off Bianca." It was obvious to Wednesday who the voice belonged to, and while she was annoying, she wasn't much of a threat.
Everyone seems to sigh collectively, pulling off their masks. Eyeing the circle, Wednesday discovers that the closest person to her is none other than Xavier Thorpe, the smell of paint practically oozing from him. He must've been painting before this.
Wednesday schools her expression to calculated boredom instead as she makes her way through the idle prattle of the group, apparently the current Nightshades (how disappointing) trying to figure out how she got there.
When Xavier walks up to grab the page, Wednesday has to force herself not to recoil, the voice that had come with such a smell still engraved in her head.
The only question now was why would Xavier be cooperating with the devil?
Question swirling in her mind, Wednesday doesn't notice somebody following her back to the dorm until her name is called. "Wednesday!"
"I thought we were going by surname, Yoko", Wednesday answered, not bothering to turn around and simply waiting for Yoko to catch up. Then she glances around warily.
"Don't worry, nobody followed me. I told them I needed to use the bathroom", Yoko explains, as if that meant nobody would follow her. In Wednesday's experience, there was absolutely no situation where one could trust they weren't being followed.
"Okay." Wednesday watched Yoko expectantly, only giving Yoko the liberty of speaking because of their agreement. Otherwise she would've walked away long ago. For Enid, Wednesday told herself.
"I have an idea how to prove to everyone that you two aren't together. One of you can pretend to be into somebody else."
"That's not a half bad idea."
"Right?" Yoko replied with a triumphant smirk on her face.
Immediately scowling, Wednesday simply shrugged and walked away.

"Where have you been?" Enid asked as Wednesday attempted to sneak back into the room.
Being caught red handed, Wednesday has nothing she can do but be honest. Honesty isn't her biggest forte though. "Just investigating", Wednesday answers as vaguely as possible as she lets the door close behind her.
Getting up from her bed, Enid walks up to Wednesday with a frown that mars her face. "Investigating what?" It makes Wednesday feel like she's under the spotlight in all the wrong ways, being investigated herself, or even better interrogated. It excites Wednesday the way Enid looks at her, because any look from Enid is like the best kind of trip to hell.
