Chapter 40

Anastasia's Pov

~ Next morning ~

A few female warriors entered and untied me. They told me get ready for the punishment and threw some clothes at me to change.

As soon as they untied me I quickly took the vial that Trent had left and hid it. I decided not to drink the solution from the vial and leave my fate in hands of Moon Goddess.

It felt really good to wash myself up and wear clean clothes after so many days but my happiness lasted only for few hours.

Pack warriors entered tied me in shackles and dragged me out. Beautiful sunrays first hit my face as soon as I stepped out. It felt really good to be outside that nasty room with barely any sunlight. The dampness and smell was killing me but here it was so good, cool breeze hit face and I felt relaxed.

Now I knew the importance of freedom. I realized that we take freedom for granted.

As a walked a few steps further I could see a stage and an angry mob gathered around it. In the crowd stood angry Elena, opinionless Jake, confused Trent, sobbing Luna, my senseless mate  and few other people that I knew.

There was immense rage in Elena's eyes. If looks could kill I would be 6ft underground right now.

" Just die." she said through mindlink.

Rayan looked at me and smiled faintly , his looks told me that he wasn't happy with what was happening . He was trying to be strong but I could see how worried he was, even he knew I won't survive this but his love for his father had completely blinded his vision. Moon Goddess are mate bonds so weak ? Is this how mates are supposed to be ? I sighed.

Trent mindlinked me :

"Did you drink the solution?"

"No ." I replied and I could see that he visibly worried.

 Lucia was smiling at me victoriously. Really ?? What had she fought for and won ? A spinless mate ?!

The pack warriors dragged me to the stage and tied my hands on either side of the poles dug on the stage. As soon as they left the stage the crowd started yelling, hooting and shouting at me . 

" Kill her."

" She deserves a painful death."

" Shame on you , just die you bitch ."

"Slut !"

I heard all this and way worse slurs . They were followed by eggs, mud , stones, shoes and tomatoes.  Within moments I was covered with everything. I am glad Rayan didn't hand me over to the crowd or my family wouldn't even find my bones.

Rayan came up on the stage and blabbered " Anastasia is being punished for attempt to kill the former Alpha of this pack....." I didn't even listen to his shitty speech instead I tried to remember the day my dad gave me the mission of killing Alpha Markus -

~~ Flashback (Chapter : 14 ) ~~

" Yes, mission. You will kill Alpha Markus for me."

"Dad if I kill my mate's father , he will hate me !!"

"Nasia you have to choose then . If you choose to live with your mate and Markus, you are not welcome in this pack, you will be dead to me ."

~~ I remember the detailed conversation after I had decided what to do .~~

" Dad."

" Yes ? What have you chosen ?"

" Dad I won't ! I won't kill Alpha Markus ."

" Wh--whatt ? After everything that I have told you, after everything that I have been through? "

 I went and sat near him. "Yes dad. Dad what will we gain out of this ? More hate , more wars , more loss of innocent lives. All of the pack warriors have a family here. If I kill Markus , then their pack will know one day or the other and kill me but what about our pack dad? We will be wiped out , you know they are stronger than us in terms of ammunitions , army ,area  and almost everything. So many widows and orphan, is it worth it ? Most of all if you leave this stubbornness then you will be the bigger person, what's the difference between you and him if  you both kill each other's family ? I know dad , it isn't easy but think about it."

" You are telling me to think ? Killing Markus is only thing that I have wanted . He -"

" I know dad but at what cost ? Will you ever be happy if you know that your daughter is being mistreated there for killing a Alpha or she is being  tortured for trying to kill a Alpha ? Will you be able to live a happy life knowing I am  dying everyday ?"

He was silent. I could see he was contemplating.

"Take your time dad , let's put behind the differences and begin a new chapter of our life. Irrespective of whether you accept me for this decision or not, remember I am and will always be there for you dad !"

See dad, the way I am being treated ! Just imagine , had I purposely tried to kill the Alpha then I  would have been shredded into pieces by now.

" AAAAaHHHHHH" my thought process was interrupted a whip lashed on my back. I couldn't help but scream in pain.
