Stu Macher hated the smell of cigarettes ever since he was a baby. His father, Edward Macher, used to smoke all the time and still does. It's one of the reasons why stu always avoided Billy Loomis.

Stu knew for a fact that Billy would never quit smoking, so he did the only logical thing, and that was avoiding Billy.

Billy was of course pretty fucking pissed about that and well , he shouted and yelled really means things at stu.

Words that stu heard over the years. The words didn't really mean nothing to stu anymore, but actions did.

Billy hit him, and he punched him because he was so angry with him. Stu could only stare at Billy as he seeth in complete anger

"Fuck you, stu! I don't fucking need you! You can avoid me as much as you fucking want. It doesn't matter, I'm gonna ignore you, just like you ignored me." Billy spat out

"Don't fucking come to me asking for any help," he added and stu could only stare at he left.

Stu quietly stood up. His left cheek was hurting from where Billy had punched him. Billy spent most of his time in the gym , punching a punching bag.

Stu just went home afterward, and the second he entered the house. The smell of cigarettes hit him and along with the smell of alcohol.

"There you are! Why are you so fucking late, huh!?" His father shouted and stu flinched

"Sorry, dad, I just took the longer way home because it just a nice day out-" stu was cut off by his dad hitting him.

It was a thing that stu had gotten used to. His dad beating him up, smashing a bottle or two on his head.

"Useless shit! Clean everything up! Right now!" His father ordered before stumbing into the living room, and stu sighed, moaning in pain as he stood up to clean up everything.
-
An hour later , stu laid on his bed, on his side, since his back was killing him. He couldn't fall asleep. The smell of smoke entered his room , and he winced at he sat up.

It didn't smell like cigarettes. It smelled different, he groaned as he stood up, the floor felt a bit warmer than usual and that was concerning but stu didn't think much of it.

"Shit!" He cursed as he touched the doorknob, but it was boiling hot. He backed up as his door caught on fire, and his eyes widened

There's a fire. His house was on fire. "Dad? Oh shit , dad!" Stu shouted, hoping that his father wasn't caught in the fire like he was.

He felt his body going weak, and his vision was darkening. He fell to the floor, seeing the flames getting closer.

He just hoped that his dad was okay.
-
Stu woke up to the sound of beeping, and he found himself in the hospital. His arm was hurting, and a small whimper escaped him.

"Stu!?" He flinched as the smell of cigarettes hit him ,"d-dad?"

"You forgot the dy," Billy joked and stu whined ,"I thought you hated me?" Billy sighed

"I could never hate you...I was just pissed at you but you almost fucking died, so how can I still be mad at you, huh?" Billy tsk,

"Are in any pain?" He asked, gesturing to his arm ,"just a little," stu said, "I'll get a nurse," Billy told him

"W-wait! What about my dad? Is he okay?" Stu asked, and Billy sighed again, "I'm sorry, stu, but your dad.. he didn't make it." Billy told him , and stu looks down at his lap , "Oh,"

Billy didn't want to leave stu, but he had to get a nurse to give him something for the pain.

He was quick to come back and sat in the chair next to stu, watching as the nurse gave stu something for his pain.

After the nurse left, Billy reached out and grabbed Stu's hand, and stu looked at him, "Why..why were you avoiding me?" He asked

"I hate the smell of cigarettes." Stu mumbled, "that's the reason why you are avoiding me? That's a stupid reason, stu." Billy told him

"My dad smo- my dad used to smoke all the time. Ever since I was a baby, I grew up with that smell, and I hate it because every time my dad smoked, I would get burned by the cigarette," stu quietly confessed

"It's what killed him in the end," he added, "it almost killed you. Why didn't you tell me? I would've quit smoking," Billy told him, his hand tightening around stu's

"Why? I'm a nobody . Why would you quit smoking for me?" Stu asked , "Because you idiot, I love you," Billy told him

"You punched me," stu told him ,"and I'm so sorry. I was just angry, and I swear on my life that I would never ever hit you again." Billy told him

"Do you really love me?" Billy nodded with a small smile ,"Yeah, I do."

Stu gave Billy a chance that day. That day changed his life. Billy tried to quit smoking. He really did, but he just couldn't. He broke his promise of never hitting stu.

All his childhood stu hated the smell of cigarettes, but now, in adulthood, he liked the smell of cigarettes.

He was blinded by his love for Billy. Billy reminded him of his dad and stu missed him.

The smell of cigarettes felt like home.
