Worried Fool

     Kai paced back and forth in front of the TV while Lloyd and Nya sat on the couch trying to calm him down.
     Jay and Cole had left to go on a mission and Kai was stuck here worrying for his short brunette. Kai was used to the fear that washed over him when his family was put on the front lines of danger. But when it came to Jay it was something completely different, Kai would be pulling out his hair with worry that Jay might never make it back. Or worse, he was captured and tortured like he had on Nadakhan's ship. That was a night Kai or any of the team would forget. Jay was hysterically crying while he explained, Nya was comforting him while holding him close. The rest were stood there mouth agape as they couldn't comprehend the events that went on, how this could happen to someone as bright as Jay. After that night they took many precautions with the smaller boy, making sure of his triggers and fears. After that night Kai was constantly making sure Jay was okay, in the morning and night. It scared Kai so much that it could happen again, so he was always stood on the constant fear whenever Jay was gone from him.
     "He's been gone for longer than he should be!" Kai exclaimed frantically looking at the clock that hanged from the wall. 
     Lloyd and Nya share a quick glace and sighed at they're older brother. Nya had previously tried to get her brother from the quick pacing and sit down but Kai wasn't having any of it. He needed to move, needed to get all of the pent up anxiety out through his system. 
     "Kai you know that missions normally take longer than they should. Especially the one Jay and Cole are on right now," Lloyd reassured his older brother. He only got a short look and a slightly less tense shoulders at the words.
     "Lloyd's right. They're doing some pretty stealthy stuff, so it will take them longer to get to and from." Nya added, the words did not help the situation and received a glare from Lloyd. She put her hands up defensively, admittedly, she was not the best at comforting. From everything that has happened and having a temperamental brother such as Kai it was always hard to get the closure that others needed, that she and Kai both needed.
     "What if they got caught? Oh first spinjitzu master that would be bad. They could get put in jail. Jay could have an episode from his trauma he's trying so hard to overcome. It wouldn't be taking this long unless-" Kai was rambling on and on about the possibilities that could happen or might possibly be happening right at this very moment when Lloyd shouted over him.
     "Kai calm down!" He hadn't meant for his voice to be that loud, but they had to deal with it almost every time Jay went out on a mission. Most time jay had left reassurances around the monastery/bounty for Kai to find. Other times he had the ones left behind to set something up that would keep Kai distracted for until he got back. Then of course there are the times when he has to leave early so nothing is planned or set up. Those are the hard days with Kai's anxiety.
     "We know you're worried. We all are. We are all worried that something bad could happen. But Jay is strong, he can fend for himself. Besides-" Lloyd got cut off by Nya.
     "Cole is never going to let anything happen to Jay. He would rather die than know that Jay was put in harms way." Nya finished, content with seeing Kai's shoulders fall and his expression softened.
     Lloyd motioned for Kai to sit down and the boy did just that. All of the worrying had made his exhausted mentally and the siblings could see it on his face. Kai plopped down on the couch in between Nya and Lloyd. They both wrapped they're arm around Kai for a sense of comfort and Kai could feel himself slowly lowering his eyelids. He could hear Nya say that it was okay for him to sleep, that Jay would be fine and make it back okay. Lloyd said comforting words to help his fall asleep better and once the fire elemental fell asleep the two other siblings let out a sigh of relief. It was always hard for Kai to get put asleep, Jay always helped, whether it was his presence that calmed Kai down enough to let himself sleep, or it was the words that he would say that made him tired and safe, no matter what it was Jay was always the one that helped Kai sleep the most.
     It was always touching when the team would get up and see Jay wide awake on his phone with Kai sleeping soundly behind him, Kai's arm wrapped around Jay's waist keeping him close. They're relationship always brought smiles to the teams faces. While they were so helplessly in love with on another, they still bickered with each other and teased. Sometimes they would gang up on the others and make it seem as though they weren't fighting for their lives and everybody else in Ninjago.
     After a solid forty-five minutes later they heard the door open slowly with a loud creak and footsteps walk across the floors. The sounds of the ninjas entry stirred Kai in his sleep, making him snuggle closer into his two siblings. The sound of footsteps got closer making Lloyd and Nya hear a not-really argument go on between the two ninja. When they both turned the corner they were both met with daggers of eyes locked on them, Nya held her finger to her lips to indicate for them to be quiet, Lloyd was just silently threatening them to not wake up Kai or else. Both understood instantly and finished they're petty not-really an argument- argument.
     "Sorry it took so long. We got stuck in the elevator..." Cole said, rubbing the back of his neck with his hands. Nya rolled her eyes at the blue and black ninja while Lloyd snickered at the situation.
     "No seriously it took the guys like fifty minutes to fix the thing." Jay added quietly, slowly walking over to the couch where his boyfriend slept. "How long did it take? I know I didn't do anything to help I'm sorry." Jay mumbled, he always blamed himself for the slightest of problems, another trauma response from Skybound.
     Lloyd shook his head gently, "no need to apologize. You both had to leave early for the plan to work. It take a while though." Lloyd thought back to the morning when Kai woke up freaking out when Jay wasn't with him. It took a slightly longer than wanted time for him to calm down enough for them to explain what was going on.
     Jay nodded his head slightly had he brought his hand up to card through Kai's hair. It was surprisingly soft considering the amount of hair gel he put in it daily. Nya chuckled at the memory which was the chaotic morning.
     "Then there was a while before you got back when he wouldn't stop pacing and rambling on and on about how you could've gotten caught and thrown in jail." Nya added. The mention of jail sent a quiet shiver down Jay's back, but he focused on Kai too much to care. He wished he did more to help them since they were gone for a majority of the morning.
     "Well it's a good thing that he was able to sleep then right? I still wish I helped out more though." Jay blamed himself for the stress. It was obvious and everyone expected it when he came back. Cole walked forward and put a hand on Jay's shoulder.
     "We left too soon for you to do anything. Don't blame yourself for something you couldn't plan ahead." He reassured his best friend with a soft smile which Jay returned.
     A hour has gone by, Kai stirred again in his sleep, consciousness slowly warming up to him. The feeling of the hand through his hair kept him calm while he woke. There was faint laughter that was coming through his hears and the familiar smell of the boy he loved so dearly was wafted through his nose as he breathed in. His eyes slowly started to open and he saw an arm wrapped around him with the hand in his hair, his head and body was leaning on the chest of somebody and there was light illuminating from the TV in front of him and through the blur of his sight he could make out a game being played. Soon, Kai's senses caught up to him and he realized his surroundings. Cole and Lloyd were sitting on the floor, backs against the couch, playing a game on the TV, Lloyd beating Cole and laughing while Cole complained. Nya was off to the side Laughing at the both of them. Then he registered who was holding him, Jay, Jay was the person Kai was leaning against, his head combing through his now messy hair. By now he was fully awake and his eyes widen slightly at the boy.
     "Jay?" Kai asked, his voice groggy from the nap.
     Jay looked at the hothead and smiled, "good morning." It was something so simple yet it made Kai's heart swell. 
     Blush found itself sat upon Kai's cheeks and he hugged the lighting boy. Nya said a very audible "aw" at the couple which made Lloyd turn around to see. This ultimately made Cole beat Lloyd in the match they were playing. Cole let out a cry of victory which made Lloyd cry out in protest. Laughter quickly filled the room and Kai smiled warmly at his family. He was glad they were all okay. 
     He was glad that Jay was okay.

I thoroughly enjoy how this came out with being gone for a while. I promise I'm working on something other than Plasma at the moment, but they are still in the works.
