As the days flew into September my days consisted of school, studying, and hanging out with Bella and Charlie whenever the former, wasn't at work or spending time with Edward. I was officially convinced that the two were attached at the hip when hearing whispers between the pair behind Bella's door one night after being awoken by a night terror.

How Bella was able to sneak Edward in every night past the prying eyes and ears of Charlie I'll never know.

Me and Emmett's friendship progressed ever since that one day in Mr. Terry's French class. We found out that we shared another class together, politics with Mr. Jefferson. Both of us agreed that it was an insufferable class but having each other to sit next to didn't make it so bad. Besides Angela, Emmett was the only other person I made a true connection with.

It seemed like everyone was surprised that the older Cullen has shown me any interest. We would get strange looks thrown our way any time we would talk in the halls. Emmett didn't seem to care that much, used to the odd stares that get thrown his family's way. I however hated the unnecessary attention but tried to not let it show. His goofy personality was like a breath of fresh air and my worries didn't seem so bad whenever we'd talk.

"Were you just talking to Emmett Cullen?" Jessica ambushed me in the lunch line one day after class. I was startled by her behavior, not knowing what the big deal was.

"Yes," I said, slightly confused. "Why?"

"No one ever talks to the Cullen's," she answered incredulously.

I furrowed my brows as I moved down the line, grabbing an apple and setting it on my lunch tray. "Okay? We sit next to each other in class so we started talking," I explained. Knowing that Jessica is going to keep pestering me about everything. "I don't know what the big deal is."

"The big deal?" Jessica parroted as she trailed after me to our table.

"Yes," I replied, setting my tray down.

"The big deal Mattea is no one has ever had a casual conversation with any of them before."

"What happened?" Angela asked curiously as everyone at the table watched me and Jessica go back and forth.

"Jessica is freaking out because me and Emmett Cullen are friends." The entire table got quiet in shock at my words.

"Seriously what is the big deal?" I asked hotly.

"It's just surprising," Angela said gently. "No one ever really talks to the Cullens. They normally just ignore everyone. Bella was the first person that was able to get anywhere with them last year."
