Chapter 19

The next day, they were walking to the town, with Karga and the hunters ahead of the others. Juno walked next to Mando with Cara on his other side, the pod and Kuiil riding his blurrg behind them.

"You think they're having second thoughts?" Asked Cara.

"Could be. I need your eyes." Responded Mando.

"I'm watching." She assured him.

They walked for a long time and the town slowly came to view when they stopped, the hunters standing behind Mando, Cara, Juno, the pod and Karga, when Karga spoke.

"I guess this is it." He suddenly turned around and shot the two hunters who were sneaking behind them.

Mando quickly pushed Juno behind him while he drew his blaster, Cara doing the same, and pointed them at Karga who raised his own up.

"There's something you should know." He started as he walked to the dead hunters and put his blasters away. He kicked one of the hunters on his back and kicked his blaster to the side. "The plan was to kill you and take the kids. But after what happened last night, I couldn't go through with it." He said. Mando and Cara kept their blasters pointed at him while Juno held Mando's cape and looked at Karga from behind Mando's back. "Go on. You can gun me down here and now and it wouldn't violate the Code. But if you do, these children will never be safe." Mando glanced at the kids as they looked up at him.

"We'll take our chances." Said Cara.

"The Imperial client is obsessed with obtaining these assets. You tried to run, but where did it get you?" Said Karga as Cara stepped closer to Mando.

"This is ridiculous." She said.

"Perhaps you should let him speak." Said Kuiil.

"Listen, we both need the client to be eliminated. Let me take the children to him and then you two..." Karga started explaining.

"No." Mando interrupted him, refusing to leave the kids out of his sight.

"Let's just kill him and get outta here." Said Cara, but Mando slowly put his blaster down.

"He's right." He said as he put the blaster in his holster.

"What are you doing?" Asked Cara while Juno looked at him confused.

"As long as the Imp lives, he'll send hunters after the kids." He explained.

"It's a trap." She replied.

"Bring me." He said.

"Bring you?" Asked Karga.

"Tell him you captured me. Get me close to him and I'll kill him." He explained.

"But..." started Juno but was interrupted by Karga.

"That's a good idea. Give me your blaster." Mando took a step forward and gave him his blaster, while Juno sighed and threw her arms up in frustration as she turned to Cara.

"This is insane." Exclaimed Cara.

"It's the only way." Said Mando.

"Well I'm coming with you." She said.

"No, no, no. That would make them suspicious." Karga protested.

"I don't care. I'm coming."

"Tell them she caught me." Said Mando.

"Fine. Then she can bring the children."

"No. Juno comes with us, but the child goes back in the ship." The child cooed while Juno looked at them anxiously.
