Din rushed back to the town, his jetpack at full speed. When he reached the town, he fell to the ground and sprinted to the school where he had left the kids. He barged inside, startling the children sitting and watching the droid teacher.
"Kid! Juno! Time to go!" He told them in hurry as he walked to them. He picked up the child in one arm while grabbing Juno's hand with his other one.
"What's going on?" Asked Juno as he pulled them out, the rest of the class watching them in confusion.
"I'll explain later." He answered.
They walked hurriedly out of the town's gates and to the repaired Razor Crest. After quickly thanking the men for the repairs and rushing the kids into their seats in the cockpit, he sat down on his chair and started up the ship. Din flew to where he expected the group to be, seeing the TIEs following them. Din focused on one of the TIEs, shooting it down as the group below them stopped and cheered.
"Hang on, kids." Din told them as he sped up, shooting at the other ships. The child didn't mind. He ate the cookies he stole from the kid in school and raised his hands, enjoying the speed, while Juno looked ahead with an excited smile.
Up and up they went, doing a little loop before Din sped the ship downwards, the kids laughing excitedly as he took out the last TIE.
"Not too bad, huh, kids?" He asked as he turned to look at them. Juno laughed and nodded, but the child, he looked down and threw up, too much sugar and flying around not being good for his little stomach. "Oh, boy." Mumbled Din and turned back forward, turning on the comms.
"That was some pretty impressive flying, Mando. What do I owe ya?" Asked Greef. Din listened as he turned to the child and wiped him off with the end of his cape, Juno frowned at him in slight disgust.
"With the repairs, let's call it even." Din replied while the child whined.
"Can I at least get you a drink?" Greef asked.
"Sorry. I have some onboard maintenance I gotta take care of. Then we gotta hit the road before Gideon catches wise." He declined and explained his reasons.
"Well, good luck flying, my friend." Greef replied as the Crest flew over them and off the planet.
"Bye Greef!" Call out Juno and Din smiled under his helmet.
"Goodbye, my dear princess." He replied softly and the comms turned off.
They flew off Nevarro, Din putting in the coordinates to their destination while he explained what had happened while he was gone. Juno, in turn, told him about everything she had learned in school that day, a big smile on her face as she was excited about it. She talked for a long while and Din listened to her every word, happy for her and the child. A few moments went by before she started yawning. Din put the ship on autopilot and came up to the kids, taking the child in his arms and then helped Juno up. He put one of his hands on her shoulders and lead her down to the hull.
"Come on. It's been a long day." He told them and Juno nodded, noticing that the child was barely awake.
They came down and Juno went to the refresher, cleaning herself up after the day while Din went to clean the child from the blue stain from earlier. When he was done, he placed the now sleeping child into the hammock in the sleeping quarters and went to check on the girl.
"Juno? You done?" He asked as he knocked on the door.
"Yeah!" She called out before she opened the door and walked out in her pajamas, walking to her bed. "Good night, Din." She smiled at him and pulled the curtain closed, setting herself to sleep.
"Good night, kid." He told her softly before he closed the door and went to the refresher to wash off the day. When he walked out of the shower, he looked at himself in the small mirror he got for Juno when she had complained about it. As he stared in the mirror, his reflection frowning back at him, he thought about the kids he had come to love as his own, reminding himself that, soon, he was gonna have to let them go. He sighed and walked out, his armor in his arms, and went to bed too.
