"I'm calling bs." I said not wanting to believe it.
I didn't know who my mom could be but this definitely took the cake.
"Chiron, is this some sort of prank or something?"
He had a grim expression. His mind probably flashed thinking of all the problems I'd be faced with because of my lineage. "I wouldn't jest about this, my boy."
My eyes sunk to the ground, I knew he was right.
"No way... Artemis had a child?" Annabeth said in disbelief. I didn't blame her to be honest. Finding out the man hating Artemis had a son had to be a shocker.
Percy looked around confused. He seemed to know the whole Artemis being a man hating goddess thing but didn't know the implications of her having a kid.
I was a forbidden child.
"Is that why your eyes...?" Annabeth trailed off but I didn't at all know what she meant.
All around me people looked at me with a mixture of emotions. They whispered or muttered, every word about me.
A pit formed in my stomach. I felt like a freak, something that shouldn't exist. Even among the abnormal kids I was getting pointed at.
"Isn't it like illegal for Artemis to have a kid?" I heard someone whisper.
"Maybe it's like with Athena kids?" Someone else said referring to Athena's brain babies.
"And isn't Percy Poseidon's kid? It's kinda crazy both of them got claimed around the same time."
My eyes rung, my knees felt weak, my mouth dry. I felt like I was going to be sick. I'd just been hit by a train. Any desire of being claimed left me. Why; why are all these years did she claim me? Was I finally of use to her or something?
Above thunder boomed. It seemed good ole gramps wasn't exactly happy about my existence.
Truthfully I didn't know if I was either.
Eventually I found myself back in the Hermes cabin. I laid in my bed for perhaps the final time. Tomorrow morning I'd be moved into Artemis' cabin. It was strange to think. For as long as I knew only the hunters of Artemis were allowed in there. No male had even thought of sleeping there and now it was my place.
Around me I could hear people talking to each other. Me and Percy getting claimed seemed to give them newfound energy.
I couldn't sleep much.
My mind wandered back to my dad. I thought about everything he ever said about my mom. I tried to piece together some plausible way Artemis could be my mother.
In doing so my mind slipped back into an old memory.
"How I met your mother?" My dad said looking at me with a raised eyebrow. At the time I was curious to know, by then I still hadn't heard much about the and I was eager to find out whether I could.
"Well I don't want to spend nine seasons explaining(a joke about a show you're too young to watch) I'll just say we met in New York." As he talked his eyes glowed with wonder. It was like he was speaking about something magical.
"I had just opened up my first bakery. It was still long before we'd started franchising." He explained thoughtfully. By the time I came into the world my dad's baking business was a hit.
"Truthfully, at the time I was quite bored. It was a cold Wednesday day and things are quite slow. I was eager for someone interesting to walk in and cure my boredom. That's when she walked in."
