Y/n - your name
Y/bf - your best friend

At your first university flat party

Your POV

"You know I'm not a massive party person!" I said to y/bf as they dragged me through the door of a small flat filled to the brim with people I did not know.

"Come on y/n. It's time to get you back out there. It's been months since you broke up with your boyfriend. Trust me when I say it will be fun." They pulled my arm so hard I swear I felt it pop out of its socket for a moment.

I was being weaved in between several mostly drunk uni students when we arrived at a home made bar on the kitchen island.

"Pick your poison," y/bf smiled at me as I looked at the array of spirit and liqueurs in front of me. I grabbed one of the solo cups and filled it halfway with a very fancy tequila before filling the rest up with the last of a carton of pineapple juice. Before I even had a chance to take a sip, my arm was being tugged again as she took me into one of the bedrooms where a bunch of people were sat in a neat circle laughing at a guy balancing his drink on his forehead.

"Hey!" We were greeted into the room by several unfamiliar faces.

"Room for two more?" My best friend gleamed as they promptly sat me down in a space at the circle.

"We're playing truth or dare." A rather drunk lass stated. Y/bf knew everyone in the room but people seemed far too intoxicated to introduce themselves.

"Y/n wants to go first!" Y/bf shouted.

"I do not!" I said, holding my hands up defensively.

"Yes you do!" They reiterated. "Truth or dare!"

"Fuck sake...okay. Truth?" I gave in.

"Who was your first childhood crush?" They asked me. My first childhood crush...I thought to myself. One person came straight to mind.

"Come on! Really? Is that gonna get me back into the dating realm?" I whispered to my bestfriend, but they were insistent on me answering. "There was this one kid I guess. His mum used to babysit me and we'd play a lot together until I moved away."

"His name?" Someone across the circle asked me.

"Jamie. Jamie Cook. Everyone used to call him cookie though." I responded. "I had completely forgotten about him if I'm honest," I blatantly lied. I had thought about him a lot. But I didn't know what he was up to nowadays. I'm not the kind of person who stalks their childhood crush. The circle filled with whispers, like people knew the name but couldn't quite put their fingers on where they'd heard it before.

"Where did you grow up again?" Y/bf whispered into my ear.

"Sheffield. I thought you knew that?" I responded to her.

Me and my best friend had known each other for years. 5 to be exact. They were the first person I met when I moved away from Sheffield. I didn't really make many friends when I left. I wasn't very good at it, but they stuck by my side ever since.

8 years later.

Me and y/bf moved in together after university. I love them to bits but they are a bit messy. I always ended up cleaning the dishes. But we both worked a lot so it was tricky to keep up with chores sometimes.

I was sat in my little makeshift office, working from home when they barged in with an envelope, looking very chuffed with themselves.

"I have a surprise for you!" They said, twirling around the room and taunting me with the envelope. "Open it!"
