Mackenzie's POV,

As I was pacing back and forth in the music studio, I bit my nails.

Everyone else had gone home, and only Davi and I were in the building apart from a few janitors sweeping the corridors.

Thump! Thump! Thump! the sound of my loud sneakers echoing in the room.

I stopped my nervous strolling for only a second to read the clock on the wall; 10:37 PM.

"Mackenzie, I don't like how you haven't told me anything," said Davi, who had been watching me pace like this for over 10 minutes.

I'm sorry, Davi, I said to myself. I was feeling too angry and in-thought to speak out loud.

The truth was, I was thinking about when and how I was going to disappear from the glitter force. I told Davi my idea and she didn't seem to think I was serious.

But I was. I clenched my fists, feeling the cold sweat in them.

"I said what I said, Davi," I finally replied, watching her tremble a little at my tough demeanor. "With Ira and Rachel weakening our group, there's no hope for the glitter force to free Splendorious."

Davi joined her pixie paws together in front of her, looking unsure. All I could do was keep pacing the floor and think, Please, be on my side, Davi...

I knew it was the only way. Going solo, starting fresh and continuing from the progress the glitter girls had made.

"This is exactly what those mercenares want!" I shouted. "I'll bet you Ira is taking advantage of Rachel!"

As I began to roughly shove some of my belongings into my purse, I could see Davi's heavy and grave expression from my side.

"It sure sounds like Rachel is putting a lot of trust into Ira," said Davi, in a tone that suggested disagreement. "I'm almost sure she wouldn't do so without reason."

Offering my mascara tube to me, Davi and I momentarily locked eyes.

A sharp, loud silence. I looked away. I could hear the buzzing of the lights as it went on for what felt like a minute, and I thought she could maybe hear my heartbeat.

"If this is what you really want to do, Mackenzie," she muttered quietly, not facing my direction, "then..."

She turned her back to me.

My stomach dropped and I opened my mouth to say something—

"You'll have to go alone."

I stood there as her bitter, ruthless confession left me gaping at the pixie. You'll have to go alone.

Rachel's POV,

"Is everything okay?" asked Johnny's patient, sweet voice.

I was the only glitter girl left sitting at Johnny's  "bar."

The dim lights of his island counter buzzed with a yellow glow. Cozy and warm, but my forehead had broken a cold sweat.

"I'm fine," I replied, half-honest, half-there. I was fixated on the bat-winged jewelry that was on my wrist.

I remember how Ira had obtained it, and my heart still couldn't decide if I absolutely loved his dark nature, or saw it as something to fix.

I sighed, and pushed a glass of juice away. Johnny noticed.

"You know," he started, sitting on the stool next to mine, "Ira did really good with Maya's omelette."
